Salary prospects for power engineers?

<p>I graduated from Purdue last December and started with a small consulting firm working as a power systems protection engineer, making 61k. (chicago/naperville)</p>

<p>what are the realistic salary progressions for our field? </p>

<p>will I be able to break 100k in 6-7 years or even close? </p>

<p>I have a feeling that I'm not in the right field because I think salary increases will only be 3-5% every year unless I get promoted which won't happen until I make manager (5+ years), or unless I switch jobs (not good to do it too many times)</p>

<p>There is no bonus for getting the P.E. either according to my boss</p>
