is the sams program very selective? amd how many people get into APEA through the sams programs? are there any other cheap/free summer programs out there??

I got in apea through sams. it was a good time esp. not having to pay 6k

i heard if you are "over-qualified" for sams that they'd bump you up. but what exactly is "overqualified"?
and asuming you did get bumped up from sams and had already taken most of the classes offered for apea and would like to take higher level courses instead, such as diff eq or something. would they put you in those classes?

and would they allow taking more than two classes?

when I was there two guys I knew took dif. eq., and I'm pretty sure you can take three classes if you really want to. I'm sure this is the same for regular apea and apea through sams.

I also did apea, in fact sroll2237 and I hung out alot we also lived on the same floor. If you want to take diff eq. then I can gurantee that you're overqualified enough to get into apea through sams. You can take three classes as long as you can fit it in you're schedule. I knew of one person who took physics, calc, and intro to programming. As for other cheap/free summer programs, I've heard of one program held at Rose Hulman Institute called catapault that is very very good, and I'm pretty sure it's free.

nevermind, catapault is not a free program.

well im already taking calc bc so would i get bumped up to apea? and is it hard to get into or not?

you probably would get bumped up, I don't think it's too hard to get into.

do they want really good sat scores tho? bc mine aren't that great...

Considering that you would probably want take math and/or science classes they probably would look more at your math section scores than anything else. On the website it mentions that it requires a 650 on the math or above for the CS classes, so based on that I would guess that if you can meet that requirement or maybe have something breaching the 700s than you would be fine.

When you apply you check a little box that says that you want to do APEA not just regular sams, they don't just randomly bump people up.

Also, Hey Floor Buddy!!

Does anyone have an idea how competitive admissions are? Also, I will not have taken the SAT by the dealine, but my PSAT score is 218 - is that enough? Do I need an official report from College Board, or just something from my school, or self reported? For submitting the recs, do they have to be sealed and signed like for TASP, or just loose with the application? Finally, does anyone have any ideas about when the app will be available online? Thanks!

the app is available now and if anyone can answer any of the other questions ever_after has that would be great...thanks!!

please answer!

just call them or email them

I was accepted last year for APEA, but could not attend because of financial and family reasons. My SATs are very low and they got the scores of the 1st time I took the SATs and I barely broke 1000 (this is on the old ones). So I do not think they are too concern about your scores, but if you do want to do CS classes, you have to have at least a 650 on the math part. I just signed up for Calculus and Intro to ECE. Really upset that I could not go... :(

I didn't send an official sat report. I had a 1530(800m 730v) if you want to compare. I think the scores were either self reported on the application or on my high school transcript as well. I really have no idea how competitive it is to get into apea through sams. My teacher sent the recommendation in by itself, I didn't even see it if that's what you're wondering.

hmm..im just mad i didn't try harder on my first sat (640v, 640w, 710m) . ohh welll thanks for answering all my questions!! im just hoping i get in!

Hey guys…I’m really confused regarding SAMS and AP/EA

So it seems like AP/EA is way more rigorous and harder to get into…is that correct?

But on the other hand SAMS is free (right?) while AP/EA is like $6,000 for tuition and room and board.

Sooo which one is better to get into? Super confused at the moment, any help would be appreciated.
