SAP appeal chances? Am I screwed?

Hi. New here.

My issue is that I have too many W's. The thing is that I use the GI bill so I had no clue that I needed to maintain a certain ratio to get aid. Each time I withdrew I was obligated to repay the cost of the class to the VA. The truth is that I had no idea what SAP was.

That is until the day that I was informed that I was no-longer within standards and all my aid would be withheld pending an appeal or paying for classes myself. Needless to say, very few people in Financial aid even know all the ins and outs of the GI bill and I am learning as I go. Right now I am transferring to a 4-year and the grades that are accepted puts me at a 70% completion rate and I need to be at 75%. I have all A's except for 3 B's. I just simply had no idea that i was held to the same standard as people getting free FAFSA cash since I really do repay out of pocket whenever I withdraw with the VA.

So what are my chances of appealing this? There is no way I can pay for college on my own and that is kinda the whole reason I had to join the Army in the first place. I just have no clue how the (I didn't know) argument will play out. I simply had no idea what SAP was and that I was bound by it. I just thought my GPA was all that mattered.

A little more info:

I am currently have 30 credits.
On my transferable grades page I have 14 classes with 4 W’s.

At my old CC the number was a bit higher because of remedial courses but most of those have not transferred. So right now I am right at 70% at the new school (when I need to be at 75%) but was actually at 66% at the old school.

i have no clue if they will look at everything or just consider what has transferred. either way it looks bad though. Ignorance is a killer.

Darn. I was hoping to just edit my second post. Oh well, I’ll put this here then.

This is my “Unofficial” transcript from my new school I am transferring to:

So yeah. if I go by my “unofficial” then I am just dandy.

If I go by my transfer report then I will need to appeal.

And if I go by my actual CC transcript then I’d be a bit lower than 70% and will need to appeal anyways. So yeah, I am just kinda flapping here and assuming the worst. My hope is to at least get granted probation since I know this won’t happen again. College is fairly easy for me so long as I am aware of the rules.

Is the a Veterans advisor at your CC or at the university that you are headed to? That person should have good ideas for resolving this. You also could ask in the Veterans sub-forum. It is inside the Admissions Forum under the heading “specialty college admissions topics”.

Wishing you all the best!
