So I have pretty severe ADHD and earlier this school year I was talking to my Special Education Advisor about the SAT's. She said we should get started filing for accommodations. We put down what I had on my 504 plan (I've been diagnosed since 5th grade and on a 504 since 8th) which were supervised walking breaks on the half hour, private testing room, extra time and use of a keyboard. I've always been an excellent writer, but I struggle with handwriting. I get extremely frustrated with it and tend to either leave out important information because of this to make what I need to write shorter, or my handwriting turns almost unreadable. Because of this, I have the ability to type everything in class, bringing me up almost a full letter grade in certain subjects. We got a response that I had been granted each accommodation for the SAT's EXCEPT the use of a keyboard. I'm very worried seeing as writing is my intellectual strong point, and I really want/need my SAT's to reflect that. I know my scores are going to drop severely if I try to take the test in handwriting. Does anyone know additional steps I could take in order to get the accommodation? If not, will colleges understand and overlook the score if I explain what happened? I'm a junior right now so I have until the beginning of next summer to figure this out. Please help!
