SAT ACT Comparison Should D retake?

Hey y'all - I value your knowledge on academic stats and am seeking advise on whether I should encourage my D to retake the SAT 1's. In October (no prep) she scored M700, CW 710 and R 750 and 10-12 on the essay for a 2160. In Feb. on the ACT (no prep) she scored English 29, M 30, Science 34, R 35 and 10-12 on essay for a 32 composite score. She is a likely recruited athlete. I feel she should consider prepping for math and grammar over the summer and retake the SAT 1 in the fall in case she decides against playing in college and wants to apply on a strictly academic basis. She's interested in highly selective universities and LACs. What do you think? Are her scores high enough for her application to be read seriously as is (very high GPA) or would prepping and possibly raising her scores be beneficial? BTW I think her ACT score is the better of the two. What do you think?

If she is a recruited athlete with those academic credentials, in my humble opinion, she can be admitted to any college in the US. I don't see a need to retake her exams.

FYI, the ACT is actually higher; a 33 converts to about a 2190, and a 32 is around a 2130.

Everything is relative of course. How selective? Which schools? Which sport? How heavily recruited? If she's shooting for HYP and/or there are other athletes who are competitive in her sport, I'd recommend a prep and retake. It can't hurt, especially on the ACT which offers score choice. If she scores considerably higher (and I suspect she will), then she'll be even more of a lock for those schools. Even Joey Cheeks got deferred from Harvard with a M + CR of >1400 (where your D is) and, even at the time of his application, was an Olympic level skater.

I think retake and a little prep would be good. Stategies and test taking advice can push you up to the next level. Just get the test makers book and do practice tests. My son also liked the Sparks books for quick review.

path 1 -- Just a point of clarification: Is the 750 in reading and the 710 in writing?

I'm a student, but I don't think she needs to retake at all. Her scores were in the low 700s and her lowest was a 700; there's nothing wrong with that at all. She has great scores, and they'll keep her in the running for any college in the US.

Retake in June, with a little brushup in math and grammar. Things get so busy during the fall application season--if you are pleased with the results in June (which you will know during the summer), you can save the testing date in Oct for an SAT 2 test, if necessary. Take some SAT 2s in May.

My D took in Oct of junior year and got 1490. Retook in June (with minor brushup on math and grammar) of her junior year (she wanted to apply for a scholarship that required a 750 on each section) and went to 1560. Sometimes, just the 8 months of maturity helps.

wesdad - yes 750 reading, 710 writing
