I think the most overlooked factor with the SAT tests is that it really measures your time management skills not just knowledge. My daughter is bright, but never seems to have enough time to recheck her answers, she would do extremely well if she had more time to take the test. She always ends up rushing at the end. In her high school we have an overwhelming amount of students who are labelled ADDD, and are given extra time taking tests. I know many of these kids and I don’t think they truly have ADDD, parents are so quick to jump on the bandwagon. Whatever happened to strengths and weaknesses? The minute someone’s kid has trouble in one area, they rush to get them labelled. One mother told me that her ADDD son gets bored in class sometimes, but can focus on things when he wants to. Doesn’t that sound like most kids? Do our taxpaying dollars have to go for unneeded special ed classes? Don’t get me wrong, I realize many kids genuinely need help, but I had one mother confide in me that she has all her kids in special ed so they have more time to take tests and don’t have to take a language.
