@DrDorias You need both the volumes of Direct Hits. And I used the Essential 300 , I found it was fine.

@ETonly i got Direct Hits Edition 1 and 2) And 2011 one is that?

Is › Erica Meltzer’s Ultimate Guide best grammar brook for S.A.T?

@HopeToPast Yes I used the 2011 edition and found like 5 words on the actual test(I guess i was lucky :D) . Yes Erica’s book is the basic essential book that you need to tear down during preparation , but there are some areas where it’s pretty vague. If you’re aiming for an 800 on the writing you should use another advanced book after you start missing like only 3 or 4 on the multiple choice , otherwise if youre aiming 600’s Ericas would be fine. :)

And if it makes my advice more plausible i got 780 on the writing .

^^What advanced book do you suggest for writing?

I used the Manhattan GMAT sentence correction guide. It gets you covered on the advanced grammar questions that come in the MC.

Does any of Erica Meltzer’s Ultimate Guide Pdf’s have the answers? If not i’m just going to have to but the actual book

Hello everyone! There are strategies and tactics in both blue book and barron’s, I’d like to know which book is better in this direction.

Hi, again great thread. Sadly on cc there’s so much controversy with a lot of the sat books so I am still confused on what books to buy. The least controversial ones seem to be the ultimate guide to grammar and essential 500’s so those two I’m buying for sure but I am still lost on the essay and math portion. The two I’m deciding between in essay portion are the how to write a killer essay in 25 min and collegepanda’s advanced guide. For math its even more controversial but the most popular ones seem to be Gruber, Chung(some people love it, some people despise it), pwn sat, and Dr. Steve’s 32 effective strategies and 28 advanced math lessons. Oh and my math score is around 650-720( I feel like a lot of them are stupid mistakes) so if anyone has any insight into which books I should buy or even just your opinion it would be greatly appreciated. I only have a few weeks before school starts so I want to hurry up and start studying :)Oh and also for CR many people say you can’t study for it with prep books(which I still dont get if anyone could explain this) but many people say the critical reader by metlzer is a good choice even though its very expensive with my low budget. Ty!

I ordered that Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide. I started a thread on that before. A harder book would be useful for my tutoring students who have high scores in SAT/ACT writing, and also to sharpen my own skills.

Hey there.
Basically, I wanna dedicate this Summer to working on my SATs. I started off completely lost, but I solved the CB Official book and Kaplan 2013, that’s like 22 tests. gladly, I improved drastically.
Now, I’m back to being lost. I don’t know what book to use, and I’m taking the SATs (For the FIRST time) on October. My goal for October is to get 1800+ (I wanna be realistic, my ultimate goal is 2000+ from the first try though, but come on, I don’t wanna disappoint myself), I think I’m good with Writing, but I want tips on the Essay. I took an extra practice test from CB and I got 2090, and I HOPE to get such a score on my first try, because I wanna take it once. (And focus on my GPA and SAT 2, since it’s my senior year)

My question is, I wanna know what books to use now, and why? I have all the books you can think of, Princeton(the 2009 Edition, is that bad?), Barrons, all of them. And I also wanna know what Vocabulary books should I study from, what Hot Words list, and so on. How many hours per day should I study and how many sections per day?(Or tests…?)

ps, Basically, I looked at Barrons and the questions are much trickier than the actual SAT, it’s too confusing for me… should I challenge myself and solve it anyway or would this just be a waste of time? The questions on CB and Kaplan are much simpler and easily deciphered, and I don’t wanna waste my time working on something that isn’t close to the real thing, you know? What do you think?

@FaithElamin I had the same problem. try getting practice workbooks for each of the 3 sections (or pick the ones you’re weakest at.) The one from Kaplan is comparable to CB’s difficulty (and I agree, Barron’s is harder than it needs to be). The goal of using these shouldn’t be to learn the strategies/material; assuming you already know them, you just need to practice!
also if you want i have a link to some more official CB practice tests. There are plenty around here on CC. I haven’t tried them yet, but plan on doing so after I finish the workbooks I mentioned above!

as for time allotted to studying, I think if you do two 25-min sections a day every day for your weak sections, you should be fine.

Im just gunna bookmark this…

Do you guys have ay experience with the Green System SAT?

Hey! Im looking to raise my score about 100-200 points. On the PSAT I got a 2050 and Ive taken a few Kaplan practice tests and get pretty much the same (2050, 2100 at highest), however I didnt do the essay. Im aiming for 2200, at least 2150. My math is extremely strong (high 700’s, usually dumb mistakes, after some more practice I should be able to manage an 800), and my writing is decent, however Im looking to improve it along with doing some essays and improving my CR. I have a book of Kaplan tests (12 Practice Tests for the SAT Sixth Edition), are they any good? Are there any free official ones online? I can only find ones you pay for I’ll be willing to pay, but I just wanna make sure there arent any free ones before.

Any other resource recommendations are appreciated, free best, if not I’ll look in my library (I feel I shouldnt order books this late).

Also if anyone wouldnt mind grading my essays thatd be great too :3

@SuperFloree Hey! I think Kaplan is pretty easy, so don’t count on that. (Personal opinion though) I have an entire folder full of official tests, I can send that to you via Email! Completely free too, haha. Also, I’d gladly grade your essay, just email me: “<a href="mailto:Imanelaminoct@gmail.com”>Imanelaminoct@gmail.com" Are you an upcoming senior? Also, I’d be very glad if you helped me with some Math, I’d diiie to get in those 700s. (I did in Kaplan, but that was it)

I’ve been looking for em for the longest time!!! Idk which ones good

I want to improve my CR Score…(got 700+ in maths and writing!but only 620 in cr)…can someone recommend a good book that focuses a bit more on cr?is grubers good?

@heisenberg98 do you have any tips for me regarding the Math sections? and what was your score from the first time?
