SAT Books? Do not start new threads. Post HERE!

@FaithElamin‌ ,look…I’m an indian student…so maths was pretty easy for me…so I don’t think I can really help you…but I would really appreciate if you gave me some advice regarding English…I screw it up everytime…and my score was 2040

Hey, I’m just starting my SAT Prep, and was looking to buy some books.
I’d be grateful if you guys could answer the following questions:

What’s the difference between The Insider’s Complete Guide to SAT Vocabulary: The Essential 500 Words, and Direct Hits Volume 1 and 2? They’re by the same author, so I was kinda wary of purchasing one over the other. Do they contain the same words?

Is Dr. Chung’s a worthwhile investment? Keeping in mind, I can score 700+ without it, but want to learn the few tips to get that 800.

How good is the Black Book?

For Critical Reading, should I buy ‘The Critical Reader’? I’m having a bit of trouble, with the passages, especially lengthier ones.

For Writing(primarily grammar), should I stick to the Sparknotes Guide, or should I invest in Meltzer’s book?

Thank you so much :)

Would the Art of Problem Solving be useful at all for math? I have the books, I am just not sure whether or not I should spend time on it.

For the essential 500 are you guys referring to the vocabulary one or the vocabulary one + critical reading? And between PWN and Gruber what would you recommend for math.

Any ever use or heard about SAT Reading Comprehension Workbook: Advanced Practice Series (Volume 1) by Khalid Khashoggi. Or should I just stick with the critical reader?

Which would you recommend:

The insiders essential guide to SAT critical reading and vocabulary

The critical reader by Erica Meltzer

PLEASE help! Which one should I order?

Order #2. Excellent resource. If you go through it carefully, you will understand CR very well.

Hey guys, I’ve gone through Direct Hits Volume 1 and 2. I’m looking for some other source from which I can get other commonly used SAT Vocabulary. I’ve got my test in October and I can do another 500-700 words. Can you point me to some other book or internet source (With minimal overlap with the Direct Hits series) .

Hi all! I’m not sure if this is the best thread to post this in but I’m new (yay first post), so…

I have Princeton’s Cracking the SAT 2014 and I’m wondering how accurate the practice tests are? I know lots of people on the forum recommend using only the College Board’s Blue Book, but my copy’s arriving in like a week and PSAT is in three weeks, so I’d really like to practice with the Princeton book’s practice tests right now - if they’re any good. I already took one and it seems pretty in line with what I experienced on last years PSAT, but I wouldn’t want to take more if they’re really /that/ much worse than the actual P/SAT.

They are not any good. Send it back.

You’re mistaken - it’s the official College Board one that’s on its way in the mail and the Princeton one that I already have (and it seems to have helped with test-taking strategies) - but thanks.

Yes. I’ve been using it. You get 40 passages and a free online vocab course which is awesome. As the title suggests it is advanced level, so you have to be kind of already good at cr and this gives you lots of practice. There is one page of tips which works for any passage but you can use your own way too.

That was meant for Superdro…sorry

I have an old SAT book titled 10 real SATs published in 2000. Can I use it for anything?
Secondly I did grubers maths, recommended to do Dr John Chung too?
Finally the essential 500 or direct hits?

Is anybody familiar with the book The critical Reader which is published by Erica Meltzer. Since his book on grammar is so good that I think this book about critical reading may help.

what should i do for critical reading and writing section
i am totally lost
plz help

I’d just like to underscore (gotta use them SAT words) how good the ultimate guide to sat grammar is, as mentioned in the thread. I bought them and crammed right before the PSAT and I went up ~70 pts in a week. I feel like I aced the real thing and so far every problem posted on the PSAT thread I got right for grammar. It just makes things so much easier. I tried Word Smart grammar before and while it was funny, it was not even close in quality.

I’m already getting the BB but…

Best Overall? Barron’s 2400 vs Barron’s SAT 27th Edition?

Best Writing Prep?

Best Vocab Prep?

Hi,im an international student,i only can only take the SAT once because of financial problems
and i only can order the prep books needed for the SAT once(SAT is not supported in my country so i got to order the books from overseas also there are no prep classes for SAT) i have these in mind:
Barron’s SAT 27th edition
Barron’s SAT Subject Test Math Level 2 11th edition
Barron’s SAT 2400, 4th Edition
The Official SAT Study Guide with DVD
Cracking the SAT Physics Subject Test, 2013-2014 Edition
going to take SAT Reasoning and SAT II (Math Level 2 and Physics) in about 1 year and im not a native English speaker.
are the books fine?do you have any suggestions?
P.S:since a teacher who does not know anything about the subject he is correcting,is going to correct the final and mid,i got to study real hard for those too,in order to write the most common thing.

i studied with the Barron’s book after taking a kaplan class and the SAT for my second try on the test; I went up 180 points. I definitely suggest Barrons.
