Hi guys, I was just wondering if you knew of any resources for improving the essay part of the writing section. I got 800 in math, 710 in critical reading, and 680 in writing with an essay score of 8. I’m hoping to go 2300+ so if you know of any books to improve writing and critical reading that would be great

@melitorious I have the princeton review pdf so send me your email and let me share it with you.

@samuelfrimps Do you have direct hits in pdf?

Hi guys, I am begining my preparation for the October SAT, I did give it once before, I got 1710 but that was without any preparation. My writing and CR needs a lot of improvement and as far as I know my writing is getting better but I still haven’t touched CR, I’ve been told CR increases with practice. I have TPR’s Sat guidebook (the premium thing) and TPR’s 11 sample tests book, for the vocab I have the first Wordsmart. Are these books enough, or do I need the Collegeboard book? Also, some people are telling me to use Direct Hits ‘because it has better examples’ but tbh, that doesn’t really matter to me since I still memorize words without much difficulty from WordSmart, even so is there any reason to use Direct Hits rather that Word Smart?

@inshm2016 Yeah I do. Send me your email if you want it.

@mchaditheyoda. The BB should be your priority to get. Direct hits volume 1&2 are great books. Get those books.

@Jr12317 BB means the Blue Book (Collegeboard), right? The Direct Hits books are very rare where I live, so it’s going to be a hassle finding them, and when I do, I’m pretty sure they are going to be expensive. So unless I am convinced that I should buy them, I won’t. Most of the time, the people who have used both WordSmart and Direct Hits say that direct hits has better examples, but I’m 1/10 done with wordsmart words and its working out pretty well. The words are pretty similar on both books so please convince me if this is worth the hassle.

Well if that book is helping you with the vocab, then keep working with it. Yeah the blue book. @mchaditheyoda

thanks in advance!

Hey! Does anyone know if the ‘‘Math Refresher’’ from Chung’s 2015 complete guide is good? I heard that it’s good for beginners, and I kind of am a beginner.

Hey guys, so I bought the BB and Barron’s book but I have a question.
Should I read the chapters before the practice tests in the BB? Or should I just use the BB for testing and read the Barron for strategies/tips?

You should only use the BB for practice tests. There are a lot better options for strategies/tips than Barrons.

Hello everyone. I took the june sat this year and i recieved a 1430 without any preparations. I really wanna improve my score before i take it again in October to at least a 2000. I want to know if it is possible for me as i will start studying very soon everyday until october so i would like to know if the barrons 2400 book or any others will be fine me. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I am definitely not an SAT expert but I increased my score from 1540 to 1920. I bought The Essential 500 (really liked it, a couple of words from the book showed up on the test (e.g. sanguine, inimical, ornate, refractory, and some more)), The Critical Reader (didn’t find it useful since she seems to base the entire book on the fact that you should read the text before looking at the questions. You can find better advice here in CC), The Ultimate Guide to Grammar (this is gold, managed to score 45/49 in writing multiple choice) and PWN the SAT Math Guide (this is also a very good book, though I didn’t have time to finish it :/)

Hope this helps and good luck!

College Board Blue Book for the New SAT comes out tomorrow.

Yes, but … PDFs of all 4 tests in this book can also be downloaded for free at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-tests.
