SAT CR Question

As a geologist, I had been generally aware of the visual riches culled from the two Voyager space probes launched by the United States in the late 1970s. These robot eyes sent out to wander among the worlds and satellites of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune had reportedly brought back tales and wonders of these geographical new worlds. This I had known; but here was the overwhelming evidence, of which I had been ignorant. Here were images that revealed worlds of unaccountable feature and action? (30) Here were the violently eruptive sulfur volcanoes on Jupiter's moon Io, spewing gases and ions far into space. Here were the eerie, spidery lines of Jupiter's moon Europa, stretching or hundreds of miles just beneath a glazed skin of frozen methane. Here, to were the gigantic, broken ice cliffs on Uranus' moon Miranda, rising to heights that dwarfed even the Himalayas, and the multiform terrain of Neptune's moon Triton, whose patchwork landscapes seemed grafted onto each other without reason order, (40) as if by collision.

In lines 30-40, the author lists geographical details primarily in order to
A. emphasize the novelty and diversity of the photographs
E. explain a personal fascination with new places and sights

What's the answer and (good) explanation?

i feel like it’s A? not quite sure but here’s my reasoning.

for E, you don’t know if the author is fascinated with all places in sights, he’s just talking about space. as a geologist, perhaps he wouldn’t be fascinated by other places and sights that do not have to do with his field. instead, A emphasizes the novelty (new and unusual) and diversity (of the landscapes) of the photographs. he’s emphasizing the elements of the new/weird worlds that were so fantastic in his opinion.

hope i got this right! lol and hope this helped
