SAT Critical Reading...

Hey y'all...

I am a junior in high school taking AP Calc BC so my math should be set.

The writing portion of the SAT just plays around with my head - I look at the right answer, think about another right answer, don't see the right answer, fail.
Grammar books so far are helping...

Critical reading... Err... Yeah, this is where I'm stumped.
I am doing fine in school, you know, but it's just the reading on the SAT...
I don't know why... I got a 202 on the PSAT because of this stupid section and when I looked back at my packet, I saw that I did the exact same thing as I would do in writing...
Narrowed it down to two choices, circled one of them [the right answer], un-circled it and circled the other one.

Because I'm taking the SAT in March, I really need help to prepare for the section.
I have bought the "Blue book" and also the Barron's Critical Reading Book (yet, I did do the questions in this book...).

Tell me something, please, because if I don't do well on the SAT this time, I might just end up going to West Point (CalTech-->RPI-->MIT-->West Point [so it is up there on my list, just at the bottom of my "wants"]).

Love the grammar?

Why? Don’t you want to retake it since you’re only a junior? Taking the test itself is the best practice

In my opinion, grammar books do not help. You can get help on grammar and the writing section on the internet. Flipping pages and reading unnecessary information is just a hassle.

Post any question you may have in the blue book and people on this board can help you.

Read a passage and try to understand it as thoroughly as possible. Don’t time yourself. You can take an hour if you need to. Then answer the questions. Keep doing this until you are comfortable with the questions.

This is just as unfortunate as not being able to narrow the choices down at all, because either way you get the question wrong. The point is to be able to answer the question off the bat so that you don’t have to use process of elimination. This is general advice; if you post a specific question or passage excerpt from the blue book, or if you type some out, we can help you better

Thanks for replying crazy,

Though you gave good thoughts on my message, what about CR!??!?
So far, that is my main concern.

I can retake it, but I try to set a goal for myself and do it [let’s not make me think all the time that there is another time].

Eh, well the grammar books are mostly for those darn idioms and dictions (paper burns up, building burns down, etc.).
I try to practice grammar and such online, but of course, school and games and laziness just keep getting in my way.

i edited my post and added my thoughts on critical reading

EDIT: and if the internet distracts you, then posting questions on this board is an even better idea because you can play games while you wait for replies

Thanks a lot for your help, crazy.
Though, that last statement you made was taken in as a negative tone:
“EDIT: and if the internet distracts you, then posting questions on this board is an even better idea because you can play games while you wait for replies”

i didnt mean it in a negative way. i play games all the time, and i used this board when i was studying for the SAT and it helped me a lot. no other form of prep and I went up 150 points
