hey guys please provide some examples for the following prompts...
-Do we place too little value on privacy?
-Do people place too much value on newness?
and some pop-culture examples please :)

Step one is to start with your thesis.

Step two is to brainstorm reasons your thesis could be true

Step three is to think of instances that line up with your reasons

For instance:
Reason: People are too confident in new technology that has a short track record.
examples: - The Germans were too confident that their cypher machine couldnt be broken in WWII
- Nixon was too confident that his taping system could only be used to help him
- NASA was too confident in the Challenge shuttle because it hadn’t blow up before

Reason: We think only of the advantage of newness and not the constraints
examples: -twitter now limits discussion to 140 character, so its worse than the telegraph
- Facebook allows for sharing of details of your personal life, but they can easily be turned to use on you by cyber bullies and identify thieves.

Pop culture (this is easy) - Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes etc. did not value privacy. They probably believed that all publicity was good publicity. While the publicity did help their careers, they were not mature enough to handle it and their lives spiraled out of control.

Thank you very much guys!
How can we associate 1984 (George Orwell)in the essay with privacy prompts Please help !!

On the october 5 SAT, the prompt was something about if we should place more emphasis on privacy. Hopefully this helps

I used:
- Fast food nation by Eric Schlosser (Strong example, worked really well for this)
- A heavily fabricated example of how NSA spied on terrorist emails to catch Bin Laden
- A completely fake novel about how some girl opened her brother’s diary to find his plans of shooting up his school and intervened

I got a 12.
