None of the schools I’m applying to require the SAT essay. But I took it, and I hated my score. I’m reporting my scores through the common app where you get to choose whichever tests you want, but it then asks “Did you take the SAT essay?”. Do I have to send it even though it’s not required and I get to choose everything else? If I do put it in it could hurt my chances because it’s a very bad score and it’s out of place compared to my other scores and I’m trying to get into super-selective schools so I’m scared. However, I also don’t want to not report it then it’s lying and then I get kicked out.
HELP!!
If there’s another article or thread that answers this please send me their way!
Hey. In my opinion, it’s better to show your best side. That is, it is better to do something that will increase your chances. I also do not always successfully write essays. But if you still want to send an essay you need to improve it. To do this, you can read https://studydots.com/argumentative-essay-help/ the best way to write an essay. Yes, an SAT essay is optional. You can still consider filling out this section as it will demonstrate your analytical and written skills.
I believe you can just leave it unchecked and not enter the score.
I actually think it would be quite ridiculous to knowingly lie on a college application.
The question seems odd, but if it’s truly a required yes/no question on whether you took it, in a required section of the application, then I suggest you answer yes. (Fwiw, the paper version that’s online doesn’t have this question, so I can’t see the context).
If they don’t use the essay in admissions, they aren’t going to look at it anyway.
