SAT good, but not

S received a 2280 single sitting SAT score. He's easily capable of better, but his scores are all in the 50 percentile range, so technically the scores are "good enough", but... are they? His lowest score was a 730 in reading and that is what really bothers us. Of course I understand that decisions are not made solely on scores and he has an otherwise strong (not exceptional) application. So.. to retest or not to retest?

Thank you.

The scores are good enough. As you said, they are within the middle 50 percent range for admitted students. He must demonstrate a passion for math and science, that is most important. Math and science extracurriculars help do that, as does a good essay. As for retesting, my S had an ok SAT (only took it once) but had an excellent ACT score. He may want to try that.

I got lower than that on my first sitting. I retook it a few months later and got lower. I sent in only the first score and I got in.
