Hey guys, I need some help with these writing questions.

1] After the most popular surfboard designer in the US [retires, many surfers were convinced of having] no alternative but to ride boards of inferior design

A) retired, many surfers were convinced that they would have
B) retired, many surfers were convinced of having

The answer is A, but why is B incorrect?

2] Sam's photographs of the national forest [express a deep interest] and a respect for the beauty of nature.

A) express a deep interest
B) express a deep interest in

The answer is C, but why is A incorrect?

Thank you :)

Taking out the other part of the clause, number 2 is “Express a deep interest the beauty of nature.” This clearly doesn’t make sense. The “for” in the sentence goes with “respect,” so “interest” needs a word like “in.”

Thank you for your explanation bodangles

I have one more question from the writing section.
3) [Were they to be told] the purpose of the study, the participants might find it difficult to answer the questions spontaneously.
A) Were they to be told
B) If they would have been told
C) By telling them

A is correct. Why ? Why not B or C ?

Thanks again :)

Convince someone of sth means persuading someone to believe in sth so you can clearly see why “convince of” shouldnt be used in the context

A is another version of the expression: if they were told the purpose… This is the second type conditional sentence, i believe ( feel free to prove me wrong), making the two remaining answers wrong

Thanks a lot @Sparkkid1234 and @BurningBlaze.
I am still confused about the 3rd question “Were they to be told the purpose of the study, the participants might find it difficult to answer the questions spontaneously.”
Why not ‘might have found’ ?
