I'm planning to take SAT II Chem and Math IIC next June. I'm going to be a Jr in September and will be enrolled in AP Chem and "Honors" (different standards for every school) Pre-Calc. Can those who received 750+'s on these two tests offer me some tips on how they managed to get those scores, and what kind of books is best for each subject

I took AP Chem the year i took the SAT II. Barrons is good but has WAYYYY too much info. Also, I got a 780 on Math II after a year of AP calc. All I did was do the two tests from the blue book.

Got 800 on both and used Barrons (after Honors Chem and Pre-Calc). The Barrons practice tests are considerably harder than the real thing (maybe a 50-100 point difference), but provide plenty of practice.

I used Barrons for chem (800), but I wouldn’t waste time using it for math (also 800). It simply had ridiculously hard tests, IMO. Make sure you take the online sparknotes tests for both subjects, though.

I agree with all those who said that Barrons has really hard practice tests. That doens’t necessarily make them bad…just don’t do what I did and take them right before taking the real thing–it kills your confidence, lol. Take them first or in the middle, then take a few Kaplan ones.

In general, just take a LOT of practice tests. You can read the information all day long, but it’s the practice tests that will really up your score.

I used Barron’s prep for both of these tests, and scored like high 600’s for Math and low 700’s for Chem, so if you end up using Barron’s to prepare for these tests, I would suggest not worrying over the not-so-great scores you may get on their practice tests. there was also a lot of extraneous info in the barron’s books, but I still think there were plenty of practice problems/tests so I would definitely recommend it.

Also, I personally felt more confident taking the SAT II Chem after having taken Honors Chem and AP chem (two years), but that’s just my opinion.

I got 800 on both. I didn’t prepare for Math IIC since my school offers a course that no other school offers, and it happens to teach much of what appears on the exam. Also, if you are good at deriving ways to find solutions, this test is a piece of cake. I’m not trying to sound arrogant, but if you avoid stupid mistakes and can just figure out quickly the best way to approach each problem, and 800 is within reach. I left blank 3. Curve is good. Chemistry I also left 3 blank for and pulled off the perfecto. Just remember stoichiometry. I remember it being on that. BTW I did not take AP Chem prior to the Chem SAT II. My teacher was really really good. It was honors, as only honors was offered during sophomore year for us. He taught us as if we were AP students though, and two weeks before the SAT II he prepared us specifically for that exam. He gave us two practice tests and I got 800s on both. Of the 20 students in the class, 5 of us got 800s. I would have to give most credit on that exam from the teacher.
