SAT II Chemistry

Hello! I'm want to prepare for the SATII Chemistry. Which books will allow me to get a 800? How hard is SATII Chemistry? Thank you in advance!

Princeton Review. It’s not that hard, but you shouldn’t expect to get 800

Why not 800? Is it that hard?

You can’t just expect to get a perfect score on everything You’ll set yourself up for disappointment. And the subject test isn’t THAT hard, but you need to do the work, and there are some tricky questions. They’re open to ask you anything they want, and chances are, the test-taker won’t know everything. You’re not entitled to the 800.

Does the Princeton review actually give enough info to get an 800 if you work hard? What about barron’s?

Every single book will give you enough info to get a 800. If they didn’t they wouldn’t get any business. My personal favorite prep book for anything and everything is Barron’s. I use it for APs, the SAT, the ACT, SAT IIs, you name it. I don’t like the Princeton Review much, but it’s really just personal preference. You should go to your local book store and look through all the SAT II Chemistry prep books and pick whichever you like best, not whichever is said to give you an 800. You’ll automatically work harder and work better if it’s a book that you like in a format that you find helpful. i.e. I personally find the Princeton Review and Kaplan to include practice questions which are a lot easier than the actual tests, but others love the books.

As for actually getting the 800, if you know all the Chemistry material, i.e. you’ve taken an AP Chemistry course or the AP Chemistry test, the best way to practice is to just take several practice tests. If you haven’t done either of those, you’ve got to first learn all the material. Even then you won’t guarantee an 800. Often times when it gets to that point, it’s a matter of 1-2 wrong questions which can keep you from an 800.

Specifically for the Chemistry subject test, a good benchmark is 720. Get higher than that and you’ll be fine. :)

I HATED Barron’s, the format and style of writing was so convoluted…Go through PR, and do Sparknotes tests. Beware, the Sparknotes tests are really hard. I got 640-710 on them, and ended up with a 750 on the real thing (which I’m still ****ed about).

Like I said lol, you should probably go to the bookstore and look for yourself. As you can see, everybody’s got a different opinion and different learning style. ;)

Thanks for the advices! I think I’ll just use Barron.

Hello,

Are the practice tests on sparknotes similar the real thing? I know it’s harder but does it cover similar contents?

thanks,
phoebe

I don’t really know…
