SAT II Math II and Physics BEST Prep Books

Hey guys,

I'm taking the SAT II's once probably, and I really want to get 700+ on both these subjects.

I am in Calculus BC right now, but I skipped pre-calc. You guys probably are gonna think this is funny, but I don't know what a matrix is or what a polar coordinate is, or what a parametric equation is. I realize these are all on the Math II test. Since I want to go into Engineering, it looks better that I take the Math II test.

Also, my physics class was pretty much a joke. I'm good at physics, and I get conceptual things. But I don't think I'm fully prepped.

What prep books teach everything I'll need to know on the tests? What prep books have realistic practice tests? If I commit to one book thoroughly, know it inside and out, which one will ensure I will get over 700 (preferably closer to 800)?

I heard the Math I/Math II College board subject test book is a joke, and doesn't reflect the difficulties of the real tests. So what book would be best to prepare, if not the book that the test maker published?

math II- princeton review, pretty much everything, just take as many practice tests as you can

physics- use an advanced high school physics textbook if your physics class was really that bad, or else the prep books will give u the equations without the concepts

Okay. I got the Barrons book- looked better than the princetons, had better reviews, and came with 8 practice tests. From what I heard, even though some say barrons is overkill, it is the most realistic to the actual tests.

As for physics- I got a barrons book as well, but I know the test is concept based mainly, so I’ll need another source to study from. However, I don’t want to spend time studying from a textbook because the information is so broad. Does anyone have a good recommendation of what to study for SAT Physics besides Barrons that will help with the conceptual stuff?

Math, use Barron’s. It’s really short and prepares you well. For Math I find it better to overprepare than under. Honestly, if you pay attention in class, math is really easy.

Physics do not go with Barron’s. It is so convoluted. I actually liked SparkNotes.

I’m doing Physics by myself from Princeton Review along with an advanced mechanics book which I use in school, for reading the derivations of the formulas etc which the PR doesn’t always explain.

I also need suggestions for doing practice tests for Math II. I think I pretty much know the content. I just need a quick revision since I haven’t done that stuff in a while and also some practice tests. Is Barron’s enough for that? Its available at a pretty cheap price over here so that’s my first preference. PR books are a ripoff.

Use Meylani for Math 2. The practice tests are basicaly like…OK, so let me break down the real test in terms of question difficulty:

Real Math 2
1-10: Totally trivial
11-20: Easyish
21-30: Medium
31-40: Medium Hard
41-50: Pretty Hard

Meylani Math 2
1-10: Medium
11-20: Medium Hard
21-30: Hard
31-40: Really hard
41-50: Nightmare

But then again I just like hard math problems. Realistically if all you want is an 800, just study PR and take the practice tests…OH! Get the official SAT subject test study guide for real practice tests, they DO reflect the actual difficulty of the exam.
