I’m a junior in high school who’s taking Spanish 3 Honors. I’ve always enjoyed Spanish, so I want to take the Spanish SAT II in October 2016 . I’m a non-native speaker and I’ll be taking AP Spanish in the fall.
I took my first practice test today. The only prior knowledge I had came from the Spanish classes I’ve taken and some I’ve learned from YouTube videos, neighbors and telenovelas. I got 700.
Should I take the subject test in October? I want my score to be maybe 50-60 points higher at least…
This is the reading only test BTW
i think you should, that’s a pretty impressive baseline. I’m taking it this saturday and i used to speak spanish at home when i was little, I’ve spent time in spain and ecuador being ~immersed~ and I’ve taken spanish classes from 5th grade on, skipped 10th grade spanish (spanish III at my school) and took AP spanish language this year. on my practice tests I end up in the 750-800 range and that’s with really solid spanish background (i never study for spanish tests at school and I’m taking the ap in 2 days and I don’t plan to do any prep aside from watching telenovelas) so considering that a non-native speaker getting a 700 without prep is really good. if u really push yourself to study this summer and maybe try and do some immersion and read some short stories you will be in good shape for oct.
one thing to keep in mind though is that the curve is pretty rough considering there are a lot of native speakers that take it.
