Hi, i will be applying ED for Wharton next year. I want to do the Math IIC and Chinese listening SAT IIs but the Chinese test is 3 days after ED deadline.

Is it better for me to do another SAT II?

I am Chinese so will taking Chinese SAT II be useless?

Because my course syllabus is different, my science is not particularly good for SAT but i still want to do it. If i can get above average science scores, should i do it or is it counted as useless since business and science don’t really relate.

well my college advisor always told the spanish students that got a 800 on their sat II that it was not gonna be looked on as a "WOW" because they speak spanish at home regularly (spell check) and are native hispanics.....but on the brighter side atleast you will have a 800 on ur score report lol.

um wait on the other thread they said you shouldnt take the language you natively speak

so what if im asian and i took a french test and got a 650? bc i thot they would still compare me to other people (perhaps french) who got 800...

Come on... how many French people do you think are going to take the SAT II in French?!? Why would I take it in German- to prove that I can speak my native language?
The SAT IIs are meant as a chance for you to show how well you do in the subjects that you consider your strongest areas. If all you've got is your native language (measered on a scale for a foreign language!), you really shouldn't apply to the ivy league.
Just think about these average scores:
Chinese with Listening: 764
Korean with Listening: 754
French with Listening: 621
Why do you think the average scores for Chinese and Korean are so ridiculously high? They are because all those Asian students think that they've only got a chance with 800s. But again, what does an 800 in your native language show? IMO only that you either don't have the courage or the necessary knowledge to take the test in any other subject.

I don't believe you need a language SAT II, I think it is just recommended. I didn't take one either. It probably won't hurt us in the admissions process (at least I hope :)). Good luck! I can't wait until December 14th!

"Students applying to the College are encouraged to take a foreign language Subject Test. This test is used for both admissions and proper placement at the college level. Appropriate language scores also afford exemption from the language requirement."

I just looked on the Penn website and found this. It only says that you are required to take the SAT reasoning test and two SAT subjects tests. The language SAT II is only recommended. As long as you have two SAT II's, you should be okay. Hope this helps!
