SAT MARCH ESSAY TOPIC , what did YOU write about?

COULD SOMEBODY TELL ME IF THIS IS OK. I filled up both pages in tiny handwriting with this: (tv prompt)

1: 1984-MiniTru has people watch shows that shape the people’s worldview. They disregard truth for this false reality.
2. 1930’s Germany-said that Gernmans showed tv shows/movies of Jews eating babies, etc. This fueled the genocide, the influence was harmful
3. Brave New World- the feelies, or movies they watch,society/gov uses them to maintain the caste system.

I didn’t use any modern day examples…I’m scared.

Hannah I think that is fine. As long as it is well written and you filled up the two pages you should get a 10+.

@littlepenguin: Wow, I should’ve thought of Jacob Riis; we studied him recently in APUSH. I used propaganda during WWI & WWII and camera settings.

Hannahbannah we used nearly the same examples haha. I used 1984, Nazi Germany, and Wikileaks. I am a little worried because I related it to the distortion of reality by reality tv shows. Do you think it would be too far off-topic? I didn’t think using tv shows would be a legitimate answer nor do I know any of the shows very well haha.

Death of a Salesman and one episode of “I Love Lucy” that I was forced to watch in class (it was something about gender roles and reinforcing society’s views). I thought I didn’t have time when the proctor called 5 minutes, so I ended up scribbling a conclusion instead of a third paragraph. Then I had time after I finished my third…I swear that was more than 5 minutes…-Regret-

I used…

Keeping up with the Kardashians
Teen Mom
Sixteen and Pregnant
Jersey Shore
The TTYL Series

Filled up two pages though, so I’m hoping I’ll do well.

My body paragraphs were:

  1. how distasteful behavior is perceived as stylish (Jersey Shore)
  2. how reality TV really isn’t reality (Lauren Conrad from The Hills once said her producers have told her to act out scenes)
…and basically how this leads to the public thinking this is the way cool people act and that it’s acceptable so they try to emulate it. I filled up 1.7 pages probably, but I think I wrote it well. Any projections on my score?

@Simo-we’re in the same boat. I’m scared…should I cancel the score?

Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451.

I wonder if they’ll get tired of reading all the Jersey Shore paragraphs lol

Offtopic?
Photography was blehhhh.
I wrote about 1984–photo doctoring, Stalinist Russia–photo doctoring, and Photoshop-photoshopping. xD

@Stevenf that sounds fine to me. I would imagine graders will be pretty lenient because I haven’t heard a single person say they weren’t a little freaked out about the essay lol

I had the photography prompt. I wrote about WW2 propaganda, modeling photoshoots, and the picture of the Navy guy kissing the nurse. I filled all but 4 or 5 lines . . . I’m pretty sure I failed. :)

How vital is it to COMPLETELY fill out the two pages? I unfortunately am not the fastest writer and ended up having two-three lines left over when time was called. But I discussed two examples thoroughly with an introduction and conclusion.

@hannah- I don’t really know. I am really nervous though :(. I’m debating what to do. I feel that they cannot penalize us because we didn’t write about tv show but on the other hand, I’m afraid they will consider it off-topic.

I used:

The Scarlet Letter

The United States Industrial Revolution

I’m assuming I got a 12. Unless college board tried to screw me over. As usual.

I had the reality show prompt!
Gah, I had no idea that you had to stick to one view, so I said that it depends on the nature of the reality show itself.

Positive shows like American Idol - beneficial because it is an inspiration to individuals with low self-esteem
Negative shows like Jersey Shore - harmful because it supports distasteful behavior

I hope I don’t get too many points off. Next time I’m just sticking to one. >_>

one thing they dont want you to do (other than write off topic) is to be wishy-washy neutral with your answer.

That’s what I was thinking.
