SAT Math problem

Can someone solve this problem for me:

If a and b are positive integers and (a^1/2 times b^1/3)^6 = 432, what is the value of ab?

A 6
B 12
C 18
D 24
E 36

I know the answer is A but I want to know how to derive the answer.

The answer isn't A; it's B.

(a^.5xb^.333)^6=432
(a^3)x(b^2)=432

432=6^3x2
432=(3^3)x(2^4)
432=(3^3)x(4^2)

4x3=12
