So I am a high school junior and I took SAT 2 times. I am stuck on 1200 and I want to increase my score up to 1400. Can someone please help me with this? This is really an important thing to me. I want to go to Ohio State and I am an international student. I am ready to pay the full tuition and other expenses but my only problem is my SAT score. Can someone please help me with!? Please!?
Anyone? I really need help with this. I have troubles with humanities and history passages. Is there any strategy that I can use to improve my score on those type of passages?
read the barron and princeton SAT prep books. The more practice you get the better. In addition, make sure your make sure your math score is as high as possible to help cushion a low reading score.
I don’t know your section scores, but a general good thing to do is to buy the blue SAT book (made by Collegeboard) and take all eight practice tests. Grade them and know exactly what mistakes you made. If you already did that, link your Collegeboard account with your Khan Academy account and use their SAT practice. I use it and it’s convenient to practice with, but I have yet to retake my SAT to see if it actually helps. Good luck!
I like the Barrons books, and here’s why: after you complete each exam, there’s a section that’s set up as a grid. It lists the different types of problems, and organizes them by problem number .(So, for example, math includes "quadratic equations… circles… ratio and proportion…)
After you complete and check an exam, circle every question you got wrong, and cross out any you skipped.
After a few exams, you should see patterns: What type of question keeps tripping me up? What type do I give up on?
That will tell you where your weaknesses tend to be.
@8thgradekid Thanks! I have been doing that for a while.
@pathtocollege Thanks a lot!
@bjkmom Thank you so much! I am not good with history passages. They always trap me up. Do you have any advice on how I can understand what they are talking about in the passage?
Also, I am doing well on the math part. I ordered Q and A of one of my previous tests and found out that I did silly mistakes. I have been working on that for a while and will try to keep up with Barron’s.
Go on Reddit. There is a ton of info there.
Try Erica Meltzer’s books on SAT Reading
10/10 would recommend Kaplan test prep! It’s so easy to use and very informative!! It shows your methods for how to work through problems the way the sat designed them!
I’m a math teacher, not history. But this is great-- you’ve narrowed your focus from “The SAT” to “History passages.”
Now find resources-- ask your English teacher, hit google, check Princeton Review and Barrons sites… someone out there has great advice for you.
Also, take a look at the book “Up your score, the insider’s guide to the SAT.” It’s all about strategies on beating the test. You can get it on amazon or Barnes and Noble.
