Under which of the following conditions would you expect to find a cell with a predominance of free ribosomes:

a) a cell secreting proteins
b) a cell that is producing cytoplasmic enzymes
c) a cell that is constructing its cell wall or exracellular matrix
d) a cell that is digesting food particles
e) a cell that is enlarging its vacuole

The volume enclosed by the plasma membrane of plant cells is often much larger than the corresponding volume in animal cells- The most reasonable explanation for this observation is that

a) plant cells are capable of having a much higher surace-to-volume ratio than animal cells
b)plant cells have a much more highly convoluted (folded) plasma membrane than animals
c)plant cells contain a large vacuole that reduces the volume of the cytoplasm
d)animal cells are more spherical, while plant cells are elongated
e)the basic fucntions of plant cells are very different from those of animal cells

would appreciate help on these problems. thank you

For the first one I think it is B. Since they're free, the proteins that are beign created are for internal use, thus not being secreted. C could also be the answer, but I don't think so. For the second one I think it is C just because none of the other answers make any sense. Tell me if I got them right?

yeah the first one is B i think. ribosomes bound to the ER are responsible for creating proteins that are exported outside the cell (they produce a protein and the ER carries it out through a vesicle). Free ribosomes create proteins that are used for functions within the cell.
