Hi everyone,
I know everyone hates these types of posts but I’m in need of serious help.
I am a current junior and I am registered to take the November 2015 SAT (not going to take the new SAT, hopefully get the score I want w/ the old SAT). I’ve taken a few practice tests before and after taking an actual prep class but my score is fluctuating/not increasing and I feel like I’ve wasted so much money. CR is without a doubt my worst section and I’ve basically tried every method to study for it. I know it’s not the vocabulary that’s throwing me off - it’s the passage-based questions. Can anyone help me out?
BEFORE PREP CLASS
CR 570
M 800
W 620
TOTAL 1990
AFTER (1)
CR 670
M 690
W 690
TOTAL 2050
AFTER (2)
CR 600
M 710
W 620
TOTAL 1930 (IDK what happened here… )
I just want 700+ in CR and ~2200 overall. I think studying for math and writing won’t be a big problem, but critical reading is killing me. Any advice will be extremely thankful.
Hey! I’m also a junior who is going to take the november SAT. I learned that making a summary of the passage before you start answering questions is key. For short double passages read the whole thing and then sunmarize. For long passages read the first and last sentence of every paragraph and the summarize. For double long passages read the first and last sentence of the first and last paragraph for both passages ans then summarize. Also save main idea questions for last.
I find that sometimes, I don’t click with a passage at all. I don’t understand what it is trying to state, so I end up getting majority of the questions wrong. What should i do in these types of scenarios?
I have that same exact struggle. I feel as though when I’m taking the test, I either read too much or too little and completely miss what the question is asking. The summaries helped me a little more thought!
I read that prep courses only raise total score by ~100 points, on average. So your results seem in line w expectation.
CR skills take years to build.
