SAT question

Hi,

I'm sure you've had this question a hundred times before but I'm just looking for a bit of direction. For context, I'm a generic middle (albeit lower middle) class white kid from suburban Pennsylvania, currently in 11th grade. I'd like to attend Cornell. I attend a semi-prestigious private school (not Andover or anything, but still somewhat well known) where I have maintained and hopefully will continue to maintain a 3.9-4.0 GPA. I play a varsity sport in each season and am a two-year captain but my times / ability are mostly unimpressive and my varsity position is mostly due to being more physically fit than most of the people in my (relatively small) class. My question, then, is what score I should be aiming towards on the SAT in order to give myself a decent chance of acceptance. Also, I will probably be majoring in some type of STEM, most likely engineering.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Once stats come out for this year’s class try to shoot towards the upper range of those scores, since applying will probably be even more competitive next year. Also, try the ACT to see if you’re good at it. I thought it was easier overall.

I have heard that, I’m planning on taking both. I’m taking the SAT in January though so I have to focus on that now.

Stats are close year to year; a 1500+ critical reading/ math SAT should be your goal to make you a serious contender for admissions or a 34+ ACT
