SAT Revision 2016...Petition To Make New Version Available Sooner

I am a sophomore in High School. All you sophomores and juniors who got temporarily excited about the new and better SAT only to find out that it won't be available to you..
This is a petition and discussion to request the College Board to make it available in November 2015 to allow for more students to take it. Please send the following letter to the following email address: sat@info.collegeboard.org

To Whom This May Concern,

It is in my understanding that the College Board will be revising the SAT Reasoning test in various ways, and will be rolling out the new version of the test for students in the 2016 school year. New changes include removing the Writing portion, changing the format of the Math portion, and revising the vocabulary and comprehension of the Critical Reading portion.

As a student, I applaud the College Board for making such benevolent changes to the SAT. I am sure they will greatly reduce the stress and anxiety associated with the test as it currently is. However, I am speaking up for the High School class of 2016 of the United States, and of the world, who will not be able to take advantage of the new and improved test design considering the current scheduling. It is a shame that such a great new improvement be withheld for two years, and not be made available in time for so many students.

It is my request, and the request I am sure of the over three million students coast to coast graduating with the class of 2016, that the new version of the SAT be made available as soon as possible and in time to apply for college and sent in the results to the institutions being applied to by application deadlines. I am aware that the reorganization process will take time. However, I do not believe that it is just for millions of students to go through the distress associated with the current version of the SAT, especially when the new version is to be made available two months later. I am confident that the College Board will understand the concerns of the Class of 2016, and adjust the scheduling so that new SAT is made available by November 2015 as opposed to January 2016. This is to comply with most regular college admissions deadlines.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME,
YOUR SCHOOL, YOUR CITY, Class of 2016

“and the request I am sure of the over three million students coast to coast” Oh, you speak for over 3 million students, do you? It might interest you to know that I am not happy about the new format. If you like the idea of this new test so much, just go take the ACT. There is no way the college board is going to respond to a few petitions. Do you have any idea how much testing needs to be done before they roll this out? They had to push it back already. Obviously they do not think they will be ready when you feel it would be convenient for you.

Oh, also, it makes no sense to put the test out in November. That would make the schools have to deal with more kids who submit one or the other test, making them less comparable. There’s a good reason to start it in January, so that most of the applicants for the year will have taken the same exam.

I don’t think this is a good idea. Even if this is possible (the test probably isn’t finished and probably wont be by November), a lot of Juniors and Sophomores have been practicing and studying for the current test and it would be horrible to throw this at them this late in the game.

LOL or just man up and take the current SAT’s…

If we can’t bieber deported then how will this be done.
But on a serious note, it’s better to take to current SAT’s then to push for the new version because of the possible flaws/issues that may occur with a newly made test that was rushed. It’s like instead of a teacher giving you a test next week, he or she makes the test tonight and gives it to you tomorrow.

BAHAHAHA, IN YOUR SAME POSITION! The new SAT sounds really interesting, but like you, I’m a sophomore currently… It sucks how we’re only one year off! Meh, let’s see how it goes.

At least someone understands my concerns @Newdie . Well, I see the point in the flaws of rushing it, but honetly, really, 2 years??? If nothing else, why don’t they start a gradual shift towards the new version, for example, each year, eliminating certain topics on the math test, each year, choosing from a different pool of vocab words/ stories, etc. And then in 2016, make the big draw by removing the writing section altogether. I feet that would go much smoother.

Sorry, @Newdle

I honestly think they should try to get it by Fall of 2016. I think that would behoove everyone.

@outonalimb lol Do you think it is right that they are going to make the SAT easier?

You do realize that the only important thing is your percentile, right? If the test becomes easier for everyone, no individual student (including you) will have an advantage.

TBH, the only thing i hate with a passion about the SAT is the VOCABULARY… IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! Words, that throughout history have never, will never be used. The fact that they are taking steps to improve the word selection really makes me envious of future test takers. That along with the eliminated penalties for guessing wrong. Other than that, i’m fine with it just as it is. Yes the math is confusing as f*k with how its usually worded, but i can deal with it.

I guess i’ll just start trying to improve my shots at college admissions by trying to master the ACT, as it somewhat satisfies my preferences. But the ACT is a b*cth when it comes to timing. TOO FAST!

Only if i had gotten held back a year in elementary school :/

Hey Jaga, no offense but i think you should suck it up.

I took the current SAT (2280 (11th grade)) and ACT (once: 36 M, 34 S, 35 E, 11 Essay)
I personally thought the SAT and the ACT was too easy and that it really needs to get more difficult.
TBH. I am currently concerned that the average american is lagging too far behind in terms of education (already apparent through statistics)

SAT Vocabulary can be studied. It’s not really that difficult. And if you had read a lot or took difficult courses at your school, majority of the vocabulary should be easy. I personally think that except the last 1-2 questions on the sentence completion, you should know most of the vocabulary had you not procrastinated during high school. Words like “altruistic” and “arcane” should almost be default for those people who are WILLING to go to college to LEARN.
(You can say “Oh, it’s because I did not come from as much privileged family.” But let’s be realistic. That’s just an excuse. I SEEN students who earned their OWN living (and for the rest of the family) in high school and worked their BUTT off to ace the SAT. They got accepted to Princeton this year. I think if THEY can do it, you can do it.
Heck, I come from a private school but I ACTUALLY attended a public school from grade 1 to 9. Guess what. The public school in which where I studied had average SAT BELOW the 50th percentile. Yap. And even THEN my SAT was hovering around low 2000s (without practice). THIS WAS THE VERY SCHOOL in which students threw ROCKS at my house and made pranks on me/bullied me.

Word of advice: Most education you will acquire in college will not be relevant to your daily life UNLESS you go in a professional field. If “reality” is more important to you, why you even planning to go to college? College is a PRIVILEGE, it is NOT a RIGHT by any means.

So stop complaining and study. I skipped 2 years and I was able to come here. What are you to think your life is miserable over a stupid test? (yes, it is stupid but MILLIONS still suck up and take it)

I personally both hate and love the SAT/ACT. I hate the fact that it is a useless test but I love the fact that the test is almost a necessity. It helps people play on an even field better (an A in my old public high school would probably translate to F or D+ in my current private high school)
I also love it because it shapes people. You learn to be more patient, which you would help realize how much you are capable of that you didn’t know you were capable of

So, I know it’s unfair. I think it’s unfair too. But life isn’t about being fair. Just suck it up and try your best. And show your success to the world one day. I have high hopes for you. I know you can master those tests. If “I” and many other CCers can do it, YOU can do it too.
You can do it. Just believe in it and act according to your belief.

kk? ^^

@AccCreate; your advice could not have been more inspiring. Thank you for lifting my spirits. I appreciate yor consideration of various circumstances and your insights. Again, thanks.
