SAT score investigation

okay.
due to the score discrepency from my previous SAT, ETS is saying that they 're investigating my October SAT.
can somebody tell me what EXACTLY is going on behind the scene?
do they just check the signature section with curve writing, go through the question booklet, compare the answersheet with people who sat around me, or what?????
I'm really curious why it's taking soooo long.
somebody PLEASE tell me what exactly they're INVESTIGATING for right now..

In one case I read about, the test booklet was checked for fingerprints. There are probably many different investigation techniques that ETS can use, including more than just those that you guessed. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you were honest each of the three times you took the test.

i know a current college freshman that was also notified of an "investigation" as she'd improved so significantly! i thought that's the POINT of prep courses! anyway, they were checking in some way for cheating. after a few weeks, they just informed her all was good. i'd let it be for now, as they feel a need to investigate, and you'd never want them to think you have something to hide, or are being defensive. but i'd for sure ask when it's over!

unless u cheated...then i would flee the country...the Kiss of Death

what if... i was working on a different section
and i was slightly starting the next section earlier
(i.e. at the end of section 5 math, i looked at vocabs on section 6 c.r. and wrote some of them down on section 5 math page... like 30 seconds earlier...)
i just wanted to start thinking about next section's vocabs a little earlier...
it can't really be considered cheating.... right?
i'm just soooo scared.
someone pleasssee tell me that i'm going to be fine...

According to the College Board, what you did at the end of section 5 is technically cheating. If they're just going through your booklet, you should be fine, but if you wrote the vocab words down and didn't thoroughly erase them...it's very likely they'll check your test.

It's very likely that many, or all (other than the fingerprints) of the above methods will be used. I think they're going to check your answer booklet :|

You're not supposed to go back or ahead to a previous/future section- you don't really have a case if they find the vocab at the end of the math...

what happened the last time?

"i looked at vocabs on section 6 c.r. and wrote some of them down on section 5 math page"

Sth smells fishy here. If you didn't erase it, they will see it. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to reason that you'd moved on to the next section before the time is notified. I'm afraid they won't understand if it was for 30 secs or a few mins. But anw, you must have worked hard for such a dramatic improvement. What you did was cheating, but it was insignificant. I wouldn't worry too much.

The pages of the test have big section numbers on top to make it possible for a proctor to notice what section you are looking at at each time, and to remind you not to be in the wrong section when it's time to work on another section.

So, I sent in my Rutgers application and checked the status and it said that they didn't have my sat scores sent. I was positive that on the SAT registration for the October SAT that I put in receipients fro certain colleges. I go to collegeboard.com to check it out and it said I had 0 recipients. I was positive that I added some, you think if I call collegeboard tomorrow morning asking why it wasn't put in and saying there must have been a mistake that they will give me my 4 sat scores for free?

what if she said she went BACK to the previous section and used it as scrap paper.....that is plausible

citygirlsmom, you're not supposed to go back to ANY previous section for ANY reason, and that's reason enough for score cancellation.

How much of a score discrepancy was there? Plenty of kids raise their scores significantly with some preparation, and I don't think most of them get investigated, so I'm wondering how much of a discrepancy would trigger such an investigation. Or perhaps it was the score discrepancy plus a note from the proctor who noticed an irregularity.

"i just wanted to start thinking about next section's vocabs a little earlier...
it can't really be considered cheating.... right?"

lol

-pokes nceph's post-

yes, the proctor may have noticed.
did you erase the vocab words?

ah... cheating does not work.

@nceph: It helps, but any increase/decrease of 150 points or more on a section or 300 points overall is likely to be flagged. Usually, they check your signature, skim your test booklet, and see what the proctor wrote. Most of the time, it's kids who have tutors, and there is no evidence of cheating, so the investigation is released without ever telling them.

Decrease of 150 points? D: How is that considered cheating?
lol What? You knew all of the right answers and decided to mark the ones that were wrong?

It shows maybe you cheated the first time around.

Bingo, duper hit the nail on the head. You might have hired someone the first time around and then thought:

"OMG I can gets teh pointage taht guy I hried to take the SAT for me teh frist tiem lulz"

And then go on to do extremely poorly on it :|

my scores were higher from my previous SAT, ETS is saying that they 're investigating my SAT scores. can you please tell me what type of investigation is done. please i am really worried. is there a way of cheating on SAT?
