I am a senior applying to Wharton and Ross and I am having a sad girl moment.
I have a GPA of 4.0 in a fairly competitive school, and my rank is 18/847, with a minority status. I also think my extracurriculars are fairly unique. However, the problem is with my standardized testing.
I got a 1490 on my SAT (770 math, 720 Reading), and I, for some reason, thought it would be a great idea to submit this year. In addition, I only took 1 SAT subject test (Japanese, and got a 770), and decided against taking math due to COVID-19 and some familial circumstances…200 IQ move. The main reason was because it was within the 25th percentile, but big mistake.
This may sound like a chance-me post, but that’s because it is an opposite chance-me post. Can someone please (realistically/analytically) crush my dreams before it hurts more on rejection day?
1490 is a very good SAT score and is fine for top schools (and excellent anywhere else).
I think that you need to do two things: (i) Make sure that you apply to at least two safeties; (ii) Try not to worry about it. Personally I find that gelato does nothing to help with the first thing, but helps a lot with the second.
Right now is a stressful time for students who are applying to schools. I know someone who just applied to 9 graduate programs and is similarly wondering what will come of it. You just need to get the applications in, relax, and trust that something good will be available when the time comes.
You sound like a very strong student. I think that you will do well wherever you end up.
Nobody can chance you. We haven’t seen your transcript, or what your teachers say about you, or read your essay.
What we CAN do is to reassure you that there are literally tens of thousands of successful business people out there who never applied to Wharton and would not have been admitted to Wharton.
So focus on the rest of your list and let this go for now. Where else are you applying?
So @blossom is of course correct but CC is all about unrealistic chances… Lol.
So like Stanford… No one gets into Wharton… Lol.
For Michigan first you need an unweighted GPA. They don’t look at subject tests and even though Ross is awesome. Thousands of kids get jobs at the job fairs in business without a Ross degree. Ross is only one way at Michigan to go into business. Michigan has tons of opportunities.
Their LSA GPA is 3.9 unweighted with 32-35 Act. Your 1490 is a 33 lower spectrum 33 (1510 is higher spectrum 33).
OOS is always tough and many get deferred during EA…
Have some safeties. Two great but tough schools to get into.
But for Michigan first you get accepted to Michigan then once that acceptance happen you get tossed into the Ross pile.
1490 appears to be solidly in the middle of accepted student SAT scores at both schools:
“the mid-50% SAT range was 1460-1550”
“rising average SAT scores of incoming Michigan Ross BBAs (from 1470 to 1500)”
So I don’t see them as a “problem”. Both schools are very selective, but your standardized test scores certainly won’t be a reason your application is tossed upon first review.
