<p>yup, in the early 70s, UCSC was the most competitive UC for admissions. (umm, I matriculated in 1972). Sadly, things have changed in the past 30+ years. It does seem that UCSC is coming back up in popularity (and quality of students). Both schools have a lot to offer students. I would have to say though, that CAL has been more consistent than UCSC.</p>

<p>the collegeboard made it much easier for y'all to score 800's...</p>
<p>Prior to '95, you needed all 80 questions correct for to score 800 on math; but not in '96 -- you could miss a couple and still score 800. But, the biggest recentering occurred on the Verbal portion -- a score of ~650 became a 710 overnight. A 470 became 550.</p>
<p>So, far all the students out there thinking that their parents' 1400 was slacking......</p>
