SAT Sophomore year?

I want to get the SAT over with sophomore year. I'm aiming at 2200, or above, hopefully. What's the best way to prepare over the summer. Are classes better than books. Also what books cover the stuff I may not have been taught in class because I'm taking it so early. Thanks so much.

Well, nobody can really help you out because we don’t know you’re position.
We have to know things like whether you took the PSAT and what you got or if you’ve had any previous expose whatsoever.
If not,
I recommend that you take an online practice test and seeing where you stand.
A 1600 to a 2200 is a lot different from a 2000 to a 2200, so we have to know.

Why do you want to get it over? o_O

Hiruma123, I agree with you. For entrance into competitive schools, the sheer number of standardized tests (SAT/ACT, multiple subject tests) can make it difficult to get everything in, especially when intensive studying is involved.

I personally feel that prep books and self-studying are the best way to go, since it is a more flexible form of study that can fit your schedule. However, speaking from personal experience, studying for and taking the SAT sophomore year takes A LOT of personal dedication.

If you’ve taken at least Algebra II, then you’ll be fine. If not, prep books and studying will be able to cover it. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about not knowing the content.

I am currently a sophomore. I first took the SAT in October and scored a 2250. I retook it in December and got a 2360. I can tell you that it is a huge relief to get it over with so quickly. However, it takes an enormous amount of effort; I took something like 24 practice tests over the course of 5 months. Also, as GoodjobBro pointed out, it is important to know where you stand. I started at a 2150. If, on the first practice test, you score at least in the mid 1900’s low 2000’s, consider taking it. If not, then wait longer. Also, are you a current sophomore or freshman? If sophomore, it may be too late to study and take it this year. If freshman, then I recommend studying over the summer and taking it in October IF you are prepared.

I wrote up this SAT guide that you may find helpful. Included is the “study plan” that I used to reach my score:

Hopefully you found this post helpful. In sum, if you are reasonably close to your goal, intelligent and dedicated enough, and overall willing to put in the effort, then I say go for it. If not, then wait. It’s ultimately up to you.
