Took my SAT subject test this June 2013 and the proctor approached me after taking the test because I had been "eating" during the test by chewing gum. During the duration of the test, however, she did not warn me or tell me that chewing gum was not allowed. I then spoke to the main administrator at the testing center I was at and they told me they would not report this to Collegeboard.
Just today, I tried to check my SAT subject test scores and they were not available. The page simply says that the scores are "not yet available" with no later date or message. I also have not received any message from the Collegeboard regarding this. Could gum chewing be the reason for this delay? I also added a subject test last minute and am wondering if this could have delayed my scores as well. I already paid the extra $12 to collegeboard 2 nights ago. Could this be another reason? Will call the collegeboard later today(although i've heard that they're useless in terms of this)
PLEASE HELP!!!

gum chewing is perfectly normal they even say you can do it on their website. I read something that said the dates of score releases by region I’ll try to find it again but im pretty sure these next 2 days were on there

@Shakemedown where does it say that gum chewing is acceptable? I live in asia.

UPDATE: I called CollegeBoard and the operator told me that they kept my answer sheet for the “SAT score exception” process, and that someone would contact me within 10-14 days. What does this even mean? Do they think that I cheated because of chewing gum? The lady said that they could have taken my score for a multitude of reasons.

Where in asia? What the heck? Maybe some other kid reported you do you remember anyone staying after to talk to the proctor? Damn thats real strange

dude I wore a baseball cap during my SAT, SAT II, and ACT no one cared idk why gum would be a problem. I looked it up and as long as you weren’t chewing loudly or popping bubbles you should be alright with that. Unless you are in Singhapore, where chewing gum is banned.

@ShakeMeDown Philippines. No, I don’t think there was anyone else. At this point, I’m pretty sure that the proctor reported it. I wasn’t chewing loudly or popping bubbles, so I don’t know what the problem is. Will ETS contact me directly?

Remember, what ever happens, there is always an appeal process. I doubt your scores will be cancelled tho. Good luck

Thanks @shakemedown.

Has anyone else encountered a problem like this before?

I have been looking it up because my friends are having the same problem on their SAT I. Apparently they just need more time for grading your test This is what I have found:

Have other people from your test site had problems? Sometimes scores delayed at the fault of the testing site (if they didn’t separate the books from the answer sheets, miscoded the exams, etc.) or they suspect someone at your test site was cheating so they will investigate all of your exams.

If it’s just you, it’s possible that the 2 scores on your essays were more than one point apart (for example 3+5). In this case, they will bring in a third “master” essay grader

You may have accidentally bubbled something incorrectly on the personal info page.

There are a lot of reasons. Those seem to be the most common though. Good luck! I hope you get your scores soon!

@thatonedude Nope, it’s just me because my friends who were in the same room received their scores. The essay thing wouldn’t be possible as well because I took SAT subject tests… I think it’s really just the gum. Thanks!

UPDATE: My scores were released on June 22, 2013 after I called ETS. It turns out that the proctor REALLY DID report me for eating (gum chewing) during the test. I didn’t even know it wasn’t allowed…

That is really really strange… Sorry to hear that this had happened to you People chew gum during the test, and I don’t know why your proctor even reported it… Like there’s nothing wrong with chewing gum. Maybe try calling Collegeboard again and let them know that all you had done is chew gum… Hope everything goes well!

Take the ACT.
