A few of the schools I’m applying to consider the SAT Subject Tests in their admission decisions, so I’d like to take them. I would like to major in Electrical Engineering, so I will definitely be taking the Math II exam. However, I’m not sure how important it would be for me to take a science test as my second subject test. I would be taking Physics, but as I have only taken one Honors Physics course last year and am currently taking AP Physics C, there are a lot of concepts that I have yet to learn. On top of studying for the ACT again and the rest of my AP classes, I’m having doubts that I’ll be able to study adequately for the October test date. I’m worried that I will either do poorly, or that I will have to study so much that too much of my time and energy will be taken away from my other priorities.
Is it worth it to just suck it up and take the Math II and Physics subject tests, or would Math II and U.S. History be good enough? The schools I’m most worried about are Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Thank you!
If you’re taking AP physics C, then the physics exam should be easy. Since physics is the mother science of engineering, you ought to take the exam. Please take both exams.
Definitely take the Physics subject test. Take some time to study the concepts over again. A strong score in the Physics subject test will be well worth your troubles.
The Physics subject test should be easy since you are taking AP and you only really need a honors physics course to learn all the material. Buy a book and do the practice tests if you arent sure.
The SAT subject tests are supposed to cover normal high school level courses, so if your high school physics course was good, you should not have too much problem with the physics test. But you may want to try a practice test to see if there are any gaps you need to review or study for.
Most engineering schools that require SAT2 would require/strongly recommend Math2 and a science subject. Nevertheless, there are schools that would just accept any 2 subject tests. You should definitely take Math2 and Physics. But if you feel you can do well in US History, take it as well in the same sitting. It would be most cost efficient to take 3 SAT2 at the same time.
