My child is 13and 8th grade. She practiced SAT test from collegeboard sat practice 1-8. Surprisingly, she got perfect score 1600 all of them and princeton review, MCgraw. Can she take real test? I can’t believe real test is easy as same as practice test.
She can take the real test, but I’m not sure her scores will count for college applications until she takes it in high school.
Interesting. You’re the second family this week whose 8th grader had great test results with the practice test. Maybe I will bribe my 8th grader with Popsicles and have him try it for comparison. What math is your student in?
@Massmomm Yes it may not count for college out of high school and you’re gambling that they won’t change the SAT yet again.
I’ll have my guy give it a try in the next week or two. His own personal stash of 4 (5 if I have to) boxes of Popsicles and a chance to beat his brother, who actually has to take the SAT, should do it.
Your child’s middle school should be referring children for the SAT test as 8th graders. The results are used for Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) recognition, etc.
Yes, your child can take the test. Unless things have changed, 13 yr olds have to register via paper and not online. SAT scores can be sent from 8th grade. The ACT used to (and still may) delete scores prior to 9th.
Regardless, 8th grade scores are not considered mandatory reporting scores for schools that require all scores to be sent.
I have to ask…why do you want this 8th grader to take the SAT? If there is a good reason (like needing the score for Duke TPY or something…fine…but otherwise…why?
Why can’t your 13 year old be encouraged to be a 13 year old?
@thumper1 I can’t speak for the OP, but those scores can open up classes and summer camps in addition to the Duke TIP and JHU CTY.
I personally don’t see anything wrong with a 13 yr old taking SAT.
For JHU CTY, my D took ACT when she was 11 (32) and SAT when she was 12 (800/790/610). She took SAT again when she was 15 (800/800/760).
I can’t say it for sure, but I guess her participation in JHU CTY had some positive impacts on her college application when she was 16.
That’s what I said. IF this is going to be something needed for some special program…then fine. But otherwise…why is there a need to take the SAT as a 13 year old…8th grade student.
Ya, this isn’t a suspicious first post.
My child is now in geometry honor.
I want to know real SAT test is just like college board practice test? SAT test lasts 5years. It can useful score if she got good score and good practice. However I can’t believe real Sat is easy like practice.
My 11th grader is going to take it soon. It’s compare practice test results to actual. And also get his opinion.
Our school system doesn’t offer Geometry H until 9th grade. When we get a chance I have my 8th grader try it. Sports season has started so we’re busy. I don’t think he’ll do as well in math yet without algebra under his belt.
And if that is the case, that she scores high. What do you do with that?
@gearmom my D is fast course in math.she says that Algebra1 is most important part of SAT test and she learnt one part of pre cal ( cos, sin) from high school student. My neighbor is 11th grader and he will take sat on Feb because he is tennis player and busy for taking APclass.
@jayku I’ll have him try in the spring then. We don’t have a faster track in our school system but we still get kids to HYPSM and other top schools. If you’re aiming high, there will be a complete package they’re looking for. Read Post #17
Is this daughter your oldest?
@gearmom . She is oldest. She loves books especially about science. She is not perfect on state test but gets score steadly around perfect every year. I didn’t force her.
@gearmom SAT test isn’t important now for her. she however wants to try it because she got confidence when she took practice test. Her half sister entered UC B and she got 5 all of AP and perfect score at some AP. She was also semifinalist NMSQ, and was IB class in high school. It inspired my daughter.
@jayku She sounds great. A science lover like my son. I don’t know what her goals are.but the high Stats will be one part of the puzzle. They can certainly mean merit money some day. But make sure she is exploring other interests. Her ECs will be important too.
@thank you. Your son is also 8th grade ? I thought that he is high schooler.
