Hey guys, i am taking the 6 dec SAT. I am from Pakistan applying to the US, so i dont know anybody personally who even knows about the SAT. The struggle is real. Anyway, my problem is that on most sections i finish right on time (the 26th minute sometimes). I wanted to know if the supervisors are tolerant enough to give you one minute (just one makes a hella difference), or do they invariably snatch the section on time? I am a high achiever, and I am aiming for 2300s (or maybe 2400?), so this matters to me. Can you share your experience pertinent to this matter?

From what I’ve seen, they are usually pretty strict – you’re better off doing the sections a bit faster so you don’t have to rush at the end.

Also, do they hand you a section, then take it on full time, then hand another and repeat for the entire test?

Not really. You are given a test book containing all the sections, and an answer sheet to record all your answers, and you are supposed to work on the correct section at the correct time.

I can point you in the direction of some practice tests if you want. You really need to prepare if you’re aiming for such high scores (at least take a practice exam or two so you’re familiar with the test).

Yes, they are certainly supposed to be strict about time. And also about working on the proper section. I don’t agree that you should be trying to go faster though. From what I have seen, that usually leads to goofy mistakes. Ideally, you would do enough practice to gain a little speed without trying to gain speed. But in this case, you only have a few days left. Maybe try doing one or two practice sections of each type. Also, sometimes going a little SLOWER leads you to reduced overall time use. You don’t spend as much time re-reading or hunting for information because you caught it on your first pass. So if you do a couple of practice sections, you may want to try one where you are more deliberate…intentionally go 5% slower…see what happens. If it isn’t your style, better to find out in practice. And if it works for you, well then you have a plan.

Guys, ofcourse I am doing practice tests! I have done 9/10 out of the blue book and plan to do the last one tommorrow.
@pckeller you are so damn right. Slowing down helps so much. When i sped through the critical reading, I never seemed to complete on time. When I approached it in a calm and smooth way it all worked out so well!

If they catch you section flipping, they might report you. Just an FYI.
