My gpa is really terrible
It's like a 3.0
If I can manage to get a good SAT score saying I get 2000+
Will that help improve my chances of getting into a good college?
By the way I'm going to be a senior after Summer
I took the SAT once and got a 1680
However I'm pretty sure I can get a 2000 on the SAT

I’m no expert here, but higher points in both GPA and SAT score are generally pretty good. From what I’ve read and heard it really depends on the colleges you are applying to. From the colleges I’ve looked at, GPA and SAT score are pretty big factors, but so are other things such as community service hours. It really just depends. Good luck!

Thanks Man

There are threads on this board on “colleges for B students” etc, so check them out.

By the way, you did not say whether that was a weighted or un-weighted GPA.

Generally speaking, which college you attend will depend on what caused the low GPA. Difficulty in course work and trend in grades are also important factors. For example if you were taking AP courses and earning Bs you will be fine. If you had C grades in freshman year and A/Bs in junior year you will be fine. A higher SAT will help, but with a low GPA, colleges will think you are intelligent but lazy.

Most colleges say that look more at strength of schedule and gpa, than SAT scores. Also, some schools take a dimmer view of students with really high standardized test scores, but low grades. Each school is different though. A higher score is better than a lower score, but there is no score that cancels out a really bad gpa.

You will have no problem getting into a college that is a good fit. Best of luck!

Look at the Common Data Set for each school, section C7, to see what weight GPA has vs. scores. For instance U Nebraska weights scores more than GPA (but class ranks is very important with scores).
