<p>I took SAT once and got 1750. 450 Critical, 710 Maths and 590 Writing. I will take again on the coming October. I do have free four months before the test and Can I get 2200+ with in four months? What books would you recommend me?</p>
<p>Genuine question: Are you fluent in English? Only foreigners use the word “Maths.” ;)</p>
<p>What a snarky reply.</p>
<p>Now if you click on the link I am about to give you, you are going to think I am the one who doesn’t speak English
Use this [SAT</a> Writing Questions - SAT Writing Questions.pdf - Minus](<a href=“http://minus.com/l4IZR1cu9DYOJ]SAT”>http://minus.com/l4IZR1cu9DYOJ) for Writing. It’s a list of a bunch of official College Board SAT questions of the day. All the answers are in the pdf. Don’t be scared by the Chinese, all you need for studying is in English.<br>
If you need to improve on vocab questions, you want to pick up Direct hits volumes 1 and 2. The books have a total of around 400 ESSENTIAL words.
For reading comprehension, instead of reading long novels like Great Expectations, pick up a copy of the Wall Street Journal or New York Times and read an article before going to bed. Doesn’t have to be boring, just pick an article that you are interested in. While reading, constantly question the author: Why did he put this useless information in this paragraph? It must not be useless, why did he mean by this sentence!? Basically talk to yourself. That’s what I did.
What I usually did for studying was focus on a certain subject area (CR, M, Wmc, or essay) for one day or two. I would only concentrate on THAT area of the test for the time period. You’ve got a ton of time, so for now, just take a practice test a month (you don’t want to run out of practice tests, so it is imperative to space them out). When you get closer to the test, go for once a week, and then twice a week.
Your math score is already admirably high, so just keep improving that (I actually had the exact same math score the first time I took the SAT and improved it by 40 points).
Good luck!</p>
<p>Thanks for the link. Actually I am a foreign student. I don’t have an access to the newspapers you cited, so is there any book you recommend me for the critical reading? I just want to raise my reading score.</p>
<p>And what was your SAT score?</p>
<p>Newspaper or Journals, not just New York Times or Wall Street Journal, can help you. Read your local ones.</p>
<p>EDIT: Local ENGLISH ones.</p>
<p>Direct hits volumes 1 and 2 will definitely increase your score! [Direct</a> Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT 5th Edition (2013) (Volume 1): Direct Hits, Ted Griffith: 9781936551132: Amazon.com: Books](<a href=“http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Hits-Vocabulary-Edition-Volume/dp/1936551136/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359577508&sr=8-1&keywords=direct+hits]Direct”>http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Hits-Vocabulary-Edition-Volume/dp/1936551136/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359577508&sr=8-1&keywords=direct+hits)
[Direct</a> Hits Toughest Vocabulary of the SAT 5th Edition (Volume 2): Direct Hits, Ted Griffith: 9781936551149: Amazon.com: Books](<a href=“http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Toughest-Vocabulary-Edition-Volume/dp/1936551144/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1359577508&sr=8-3&keywords=direct+hits]Direct”>http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Toughest-Vocabulary-Edition-Volume/dp/1936551144/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1359577508&sr=8-3&keywords=direct+hits)
These ~400 words will help you tremendously if you memorize them. I used online flashcards on Quizlet.com.
Also, you can go to nytimes.com or wsj.com to read some articles. But more importantly you should be trying to memorize a couple words from Direct Hits each day.
My score is 2330, with an 800 in CR. My score report said I didn’t miss a single sentence completion question, which was a result of studying Direct Hits. The rest: 750M and 780W.</p>
I have the 4th edition of Tough Vocab book. Is it worth getting the 5th edition or are they the same?
@OwlOfAthena This is an old thread and the SAT just switched to a new format in March. I would recommend that you seek out up-to-date study materials.
