A lot of prep schools have class on Saturday. This will probably be helpful to prospies. Anyone want to list which ones do and which ones don't?

I'm pretty sure Andover and SPS have Saturday classes. I think Wednesdays and Saturdays are half days, though. Correct me if I'm wrong.

exeter and groton have them also

my tour guide told me andover didnt...

Middlesex has saturday classes. They have shorter class hours on wednesday and saturday. This allows them to play sports. I believe all the ISL have saturday classes.

According to BSR, Andover has Saturday classes, but they occur less than once enough.

This year at Andover we had 2 during fall term, none during winter term and 1 or 2 during spring term. I hear they're on their way out.

Exeter: friend told me they had them every week during Spring term? Maybe she was exaggerating...

Groton: former Groton teacher told me they had them every week.

Andover: rarely
Choate: I think like 5 or 6 times per semester or something like that
Exeter: nearly every week
Groton: every week
Middlesex: every week
Loomis: not sure, but I think once in a while
Deerfield: no...?

that's what i've heard, anyway.

Note: I believe all prep schools, saturday class and nonsaturday class ones, have half days on wednesdays. Because of athletic games.

Also, can anybody describe what they're like, and what they think about them if they ever had any? I never had any sat. classes, so I can't speak from experience.

Since I rarely have Saturday classes I think they are kinda pointless. We aren't used to it and aren't really motivated to pay attention. We have obviously have other things we want to do on Saturdays. They can serve as a nice break. The two classes we have on Saturday we don't have on Friday, so it lets us rest up a little bit.
I have a friend who goes to Blair and they have Satuday classes every week, He said after the first month or so you get used to it.

Here at SPS we have Saturday classes EVERY Saturday but Sats and Weds are half days for athletics.

salisbury does

Exeter has them nearly every saturday. They're only cancelled about twice a term for E/a games or something of that sort.

Andover:

-Saturday classes once or twice in fall and spring term. Word is that they might be getting rid of them all together.
- On Mon, Tues, Thurs + Fri, classes get out at 2:45
- On EVERY wednesday, classes are dismissed at 1:00
- Sports games for the most part are on Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays
- Class periods are 45 min, double periods are 75 min

all schools have weds half days because of athletic competitions. I think MPS is the only school that never has sat classes (except one week before thanksgiving... and it's because they lose so many mondays.

MPS= miss porter's btw.

I'm positive Miss Porter's isn't the only school that never has saturday classes. There are many.

Deerfield never has saturday classes and we get out at 12:30 on wednesdays for games.

Yes, its true most prep schools have half-days on Wednesday because of athletic events. I went to Mercersburg Academy, and a lot of our teams had to travel to NJ sometimes for games, which is a 4 hour drive from southern-central PA. As for Saturday classes, Im pretty sure that most prep schools will be phasing them out soon, although the steadfast traditionalists will hang on to them as long as they can. Saturday classes cause a few issues, for example, observant Jewish students, especially in areas with a large Jewish population, would never attend a school with Saturday classes because it breaks the Sabbath.
