Well, we’re going to Auntie’s today to install a 24/7 nanny cam, as it seems “someone” has been coming into her apt (assisted living) and according to her, doing very odd things (cutting the elbows out of her jackets/sweaters; eating a yogurt and leaving the container on her desk; tearing all the stamps & return addresses off every envelope on her desk) - with yesterday being the “oddest” - she discovered jewelry she said she didn’t even know she had “arranged in containers” in her dresser. We fear this “someone” may be her and that she is losing her memory, but to be on the safe side, and possibly to have to show her, the camera is a must. It will record 24/7 to the cloud, and we will be able to review the footage once we hear that “someone” has done “something” -
There was an actual break in to the facility last month. “They” got into 2 units before a resident scared them (“him”) away - police were called but no suspect was found. A letter circulated letting family know that “security” is important to them.
A big part of me hopes it’s not her, because the bigger issue at hand if it is, is overwhelming to think about right now.
Us too…at least this stuff…but taking into consideration how her 2 bank accounts got hacked since she’s been there, and the non-blood nephew that stole and sold her car, we’re almost hoping it’s not…
Received in my burner e-mail account - please note, I don’t have, nor have I ever had a “wellsfargo” account

We’ve had a huge uptick this week in scam texts - everything from our Netflix account has been frozen to Apple to PayPal. We never, ever, ever click any links but it makes me so angry for people who may just panic and click. GRRRRR.
Just got a VERY slick phishing email. Pretended to be Comcast. In link they want me to click on, xfinity is spelled “xflinity”, and the word comcast is spelled “comçast”, with a cedilla on the 2nd c.
About three months ago, I dealt with a very nice man in Seattle to repair the chimney on my son’s new house and fix the flashing. He was nice, he did the work, I sent him a check, he cashed it.
Yesterday I got an email from him – and it really was his email address – with the subject line, “Humbly Begging.” The message was, “I hope you are well. Do you order from Amazon?”
Clever me knew right away he would never get in touch with me for that. And thanks to all of you, I knew the message was totally phishing.
But it was weird that the email was in fact his real email address.
Received two new CC in the mail this week. Canceled them and froze my credit reports. They tried to open other CCs. My friend suggested I freeze my SS#. Is that a thing? What else should I do? They managed to charge almost $1600 on the Home Depot card
I froze our accounts at all credit bureaus—there are 3 major ones plus two lesser known ones. It cost like $10 per account for some and is now free. Froze all H’s accounts too. we have no need of credit and when we need to unfreeze, we ask for which bureau and can unfreeze temporarily.
It gives us peace of mind, especially with the frequent security hacks.
You can request a special ID number from the IRS. Then you have to use that number when you file taxes. That way, nobody can file in your name. Our neighbors had that happen to them and it was a nightmare.
@momoffour you might want to also sign up for an IRS PIN. The people opening the credit cards have your Social Security number and other info to impersonate you. With 2022 tax filing just around the corner they might file a fraudulent return in your name and claim your refund. Info on the PIN is at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
Thank you. I went to the IRS site but the IP PIN system is down until early January. Several years ago someone filed a return in my name and I received a notice from the IRS.
Also, if you haven’t done it already, sign up for a my social security account at ssa.gov. You want to establish that account lest someone apply for social security in your name before you do (for example, applying when you are 62 and having the money sent to them).
