Do people actually do this?
I heard one guy talking about it, cus he tried to return a textbook and he only got 15/400 bucks back....
and would it be stupid/a waste of time or a good way to save money

Done it multiple times. FYI it’s much much much faster to get a decent 12 MP camera and take pictures of the pages rather than scanning which can take forever. Flip…Click…Flip…Click. Takes about an hour to do a 600 page book. Use a really bright desk light so your camera can focus faster and not blur the text.

It isn’t particularly helpful for books that require lots of reading. What I like to do is spend $4 on an older edition of a book for the content and then take pictures of the newest edition for the end of chapter problems.

^ Agreed. If you only need a few pages from the book, it makes sense to photocopy those instead of being the full text. I wouldn’t want to do this for books that I am using a lot though.

My personal strategy for saving money on textbooks: borrow a copy from the library.
