SCEA Yale or EA UChicago

I have my applications ready to apply either EA UChicago or SCEA Yale, but I am having trouble deciding which to actually apply to early.

The overall admit rate for UChicago has dropped dramatically in the last couple years - down to a 15.83% overall admit rate, but the EA acceptance is still about 20%. Yale, on the other hand has the insane overall admit of 7.35%, with a 14.5% EA acceptance.
For me, both schools are reaches, so the question is whether I have a better chance of getting into either school by applying EA UChicago and RD Yale or SCEA Yale and RD UChicago.

Basic stats:

All As throughout high school; ranked number 1 in class.

Senior year courses:
-AP Calculus
-AP European History
-AP Chemistry
-AP Literature
-Physics

AP tests:
-AP World: 5
-AP Language: 4
-AP U.S. Government and Politics: 5

SAT II:
Literature: 780
World History: 760

SATs:
Just took the SATs in October, my writing score was way off from my score on the PSAT and all my practice tests, so I am retaking it in November and having it re-checked (because I am 99% certain a mistake was made on their end).

CR: 800
M: 660 (yes, I know my math score is very low - I am just terrible with SAT math)
W: will be between 770-800

-NMSQT semifinalist

In terms of which I would prefer, if accepted to both (as if that would happen), I would probably choose Yale, but I am not sure if Yale is such a pipe dream that I shouldn't risk my chance of admission to UChicago by waiting for RD.

So - which do you think I should apply to?

Thanks!

I think you’re analyzing the situation well. Overall, you have an extremely strong profile, with one relative weakness – the Math SAT.

Regardless of scores, grades, NO ONE is a guaranteed admit to either of these schools.

You indicate that Yale is your first choice, but that you view your chances of acceptance to Chicago as higher. Unfortunately for you, Yale has an SCEA you can’t take advantage of early action to both.

I think you’ve correctly analyzed the situation. Unfortunately, there is no right answer. Some in your situation would apply to Yale and others to Chicago.

All I can say is that I don’t think you’re missing anything important.

Cannot tell you which to do. Just be aware that for UChicago: (a) writing score of SAT is not used at all for admission; (b) SAT IIs are neither required nor recommended but will be given some minimal consideration if sent; (c) test scores are considered of lesser importance than grades, course difficulty, ECs and essays which show you are a fit for UChicago.

Just pick the school you like better… It’s too personal of a decision to ask strangers on a forum.

I’m pretty sure, considering your stats, that you are smart enough to discern which school you have a better shot into. But if you like Yale better and really want to go there, apply SCEA!

It is past EA deadlines, closing thread.
