Schedule Help! Will I be able to fit everything?

Here is my schedule:

0 Hour Chamber Music
AP Chemistry
AP US History
AP Language and Composition
Chinese (not worried about)
Pre-Calculus at the COMMUNITY COLLEGE

In the fall, I'm doing golf which is basically five days a week. I won't be home till about 7 on tournament days, and 5-6 on regular practice days.

I have piano and vocal, which I'm thinking about delaying until after the fall season.

Goal: To maintain a 4.0 GPA.

My question: How much of a workload will I have with the classes that I have right now ONLY? How much homework time will I have each day? Please help!!

what grade are you in?

That is not hard at all.

I’m guessing you’re a junior. Typically, the schedule for a junior is:
AP US History
AP Chemistry/AP Biology
AP Language
AP Calculus AB/BC
Physics Honors/AP Physics C/B
AP Spanish/French/etc. Language
and maybe AP Environmental Science, Psychology, or Statistics

Your schedule pales in comparison.

And I know a lot of people who do band or play instruments outside of school who are undergoing such a schedule.

going to 11th.

and how is that not hard?! I’m trying to go to sleep by 10, by the way!

^ Because you only have 2 classes (AP Chem & APUSH) where you’re actually going to do something. AP Lang and everything else is nothing.

Uhh, I can only take 4 regular classes at my high school since I’m taking running start at my community college … and I have to continue a language… (there is no AP for chinese)

In my school, you can’t fit more than 5 APs. You’re not speaking for the typical junior who maxes out their schedule

If your goal is to maintain a 4.0, then whats the point of extracurriculars? JK…So your real goal is to maintain a 4.0 while juggling around some great extracurriculars. This is what colleges are looking for, so this is definitely the right path to go. Trust me, if you want to maintain a 4.0 you won’t be going to sleep at 10PM more like 12PM, esp. during AP Testing. I say if you think you have enough time and know you can do it go for it! Good Luck!

Okay, so only Chem and USH are going to be difficult in terms of workload (I can’t speak for your strengths in these subjects).

A lot of people get home late after doing sports and ECs. I ran varsity track and did a lot of stuff after school and didn’t get home until 6 on a daily basis.

I don’t know when you do piano and vocal, but if they’re on the weekend you have nothing to worry about.

So in terms of workload, you only really need to worry about Chem and History. Everything else is just daily run-of-the-mill stuff. Depending on your abilities in these subjects, homework and studying shouldn’t take more than a few hours, and that’s assuming you have major exams the next day in both.

On a daily basis, I’d estimate (at most):

AP Chemistry: 30 mins (1-3 hrs when studying for an exam)
AP US History: 40 mins (1-4 hrs)
AP Language and Composition: 20 mins (1hr)
Chinese (not worried about): 20 mins (1hr)
Pre-Calculus at the COMMUNITY COLLEGE: 30 mins (90 mins)

So in the worst possible case scenario, you get home at 7 and end up having exams on topics you suck at and that you didn’t study for in every subject the following day. You’d still be able to get all your studying in after pulling an all-nighter. And that’s something you should be happy about lol.

If I had to come up with a realistic time limit, I’d say you’d end up with a total of no more than 2-4 hours a night of work.

I don’t know why you’d want to go to bed at 10. Unless you’re waking up seriously early and getting in an hour or two of studying and things, you’re wasting time.

“I’m guessing you’re a junior. Typically, the schedule for a junior is:

Lol so the typical schedule for a junior now is 5-7 AP classes? Most juniors don’t take any AP classes. Even if you’re talking about the CC norms, you are so very wrong! When the day comes that every Junior must take at least 5 AP classes to have a schedule considered ‘hard’, I hope I’m long gone.

To the OP, your schedule is fine. In fact, it may be slightly challenging. Expect 2-3 hours of homework a night, and more before tests and of course, THE tests (AP exams).

Aero thanks a lot for the help :)

Last year I had AP Bio only … no all nighters. haha. the latest I went to sleep was probably like 11. Even during AP Testing I was asleep by 10 :D

Oh and chinese I don’t even have to study for hahah. it’s a joke.

idk how hard the AP classes are in your school, but your schedule looks fine. Just try not to stress yourself out.

Gosh CCers, some people just don’t have good social lives.

Truffliepuff’s “typic schedule for a junior” is dillusional, not typical.

If you’ve been able to sleep by 10 every night (assuming that you were taking a moderate schedule of ~2 APs/honors and were involved in the same ECs), you should definitely be able to handle the courselaod you listed. Sacrifice a little sleep here and there, maybe improve your time management skills…and you should be good to go.

However, if you do find that your grades are slacking, pause piano or vocal practice/lessons until golf season is over. Good luck with junior year  I don’t think you will have to drop any ECs to manage your schedule.
