Scheduling Concerns over AP

Hello! I have recently submitted my requests for my junior year schedule:

  • AP Research (in part of the AP Capstone program)
  • AP Lang
  • APUSH
  • Physics
  • Pre-AP Spanish IV
  • Functions/Analyt.
  • Fashion Marketing

Here is the problem: I feel like I am not taking enough rigorous/AP classes because I’ve been flipping through AP Lang books like a breeze, and our APUSH teachers are very experienced in giving us the right amount of work and not any more than we need to. I feel like I can take one more rigorous course, but I’m not sure what to do.

My first option is changing Physics to AP Physics 1. I have completed algebra I/II; however, I heard that physics even without Advanced Placement is very hard- and trust me, science is definitely not my speciality. However, I’m doing really good in Chemistry right now with a 97 average (mainly because I’m starting to grab the concept and I’m good at math).

My second option is changing Fashion Marketing to AP Psych. I heard AP Psych is not as rigorous as most AP classes, and I’ve always held a high interest in psychology. However, I also have an online shop and I feel like through fashion marketing, I will learn more about merchandise and possibly make it a career choice (still very unsure), as well as show colleges my responsibility and perseverance in pursuing my own business.

Please give your advice on what class(es) I should change to appeal more to colleges! And please remember that I’m not doing this just for colleges- it’s just that I feel that I’m not challenging myself enough as a hardworking student, and not showing myself nor the colleges the best I can do.

That would be my first suggestion.

It sounds like you’re doing OK in science.

Don;t underestimate the workload in AP Lang. While it is dependent upon the teacher, reading is just one part of the class. If the class is taught correctly, you’ll be writing your butt off.

The answer is in your 3 sentences above. If you like fashion marketing, want to make more money off it, then take that class.

On a related note, there is a law of diminishing returns with regards to AP classes. It kicks in once you hit 6-8 classes over your HS career. In other words, each additional AP class will not improve your college application significantly. College admissions is not a game where the one with the most AP’s wins, despite what other students here might say.

@skieurope Thank you so much for your input! However, I think my goal isn’t showing colleges APs, but proving to them and myself of what I’m capable of. I also don’t feel very challenged in school to the point of boredom, which makes me feel like I’m not doing something right

Physics is mostly math, so if you’re fine with math, you /should/ be fine with physics.

What do you want to major in in college?
What type of colleges are you thinking about?

I would take Honors Physics…are you taking Pre-calc Junior year?
I would think that the people who are taking AP Physics junior year are also in advanced math.

AP Psychology is a great course…not super hard but will get you college credts if you do well on the AP test.

What will you take Senior year?

I agree that HS is also a chance to take classes of interest like fashion marketing.

Thank you so much everyone! I’ve decided to keep at Fashion Marketing since that’s what I’m interested in, but I was wondering how difficult Physics is for someone who’s only taken Bio (B) and Chem (A+)?
