Scholarly Journals Asking Parents to Donate Money While Reviewing Your Child's Paper for Publishing?

There are a host of publications that are asking for donations from parents while their child's work is being considered for publication. In this day and age, some of the better schools are suggesting that having an article published helps in the admissions process. These journals know that parents are trying to help out their kids, so they go along with this kind of behavior. It is unethical for any journal to ask for donations while your child's work is being considered, and it is also not a fair policy to not require blind submissions. One such organization is the Concord Review. Concerned other parents will be subjected to the same. Be careful.

As an alternative, enter scholarship essay contests. They dont cost anything, other than time. Getting a win there not only nets some prestige but also a bit of scholarship cash.

My son won one of these Jr year. It wasnt huge, but its something to add to the resume and helped him land an internship over the summer.

Great tip. Thank you.
