Scholarship and Financial Aid info after acceptance?

@grtd2010

Why do you ask? Do you have an idea for me?

I don’t know if I’m a NJ resident. While my family’s NJ home is my domicile, I haven’t lived in the state for the last twelve months because I’m in a foreign country.

I guess I’ll need to do some research into laws. If I don’t find concrete answers that are specific to my situation, I’ll call Rutgers to have a discussion about my residency status.

@byteZz was there a question about residency on the application? I think the first question is what did Rutgers make the decision on. The second would be if you have a different legal answer and you can appeal. Since you are saying that you do not know, I am guessing that you did not say,anywhere on the application that you thought you were a resident and you were evaluated in the International Bucket or maybe OOS if they have you as a U.S ex-pat. I don’t want you to have to reveal too much, buy your explanation of studying abroad for a variety of reasons and competing for an ethnic country does not sound very straightforward. You really should see what you answered, find out if that was the right answer, and then talk to Admissions.

@Njmom224

This is the option I selected in the application:

I must complete a New Jersey Residency Analysis Form in order to be considered for New Jersey tuition rates. (Please read the Residency Policy for New Jersey Tuition Assessment to determine if you are eligible to petition for New Jersey residency. Students on temporary visas such as H4 or F1 visas are not eligible for New Jersey Residency.)

If you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa permitting you to remain permanently in the U.S., and are under 24 years old, please select the option that applies to you.

I have at least one parent or U.S. court-appointed legal guardian who is a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa permitting permanent residency in the U.S. This person’s permanent legal residence is in New Jersey and s/he currently lives in New Jersey.

I think what I said was pretty straightforward. I’m abroad because of my family’s decisions (Family, health, and job), and I have always had the intention of returning. Also, I had to compete for my ‘ethnic’ country instead of my actual country (the USA) because I am in a foreign country; therefore, I couldn’t be a part of the US team.

@ByteZz Hi. First I want to clarify my choice of wording. I did not mean straightforward in the sense that you are lying or doing anything wrong. I meant it as in your case is probably among the more complicated situations to the admissions officers reading it and thus maybe they do not know/understand all the facts. Does the application say what date you have to fill out the Residency Analysis? It sounds like they make your admissions, honors, and scholarship decisions before they know if you are a resident. To the extent residency is a part of these decisions they might have assumed non-residency. You really should call them next week and make sure that you are getting the best consideration possible for your situation. Good Luck!

@Fambruhghini what are your stats

35 ACT, 4.0 UW/W, Top 10% rank, many APs taken for 4s/5s, strong ECs (Sports Captain + Club President), solid all-around with a pretty unique essay.

Anyone who says that Rutgers only uses ACT and GPA for scholarship money is wrong - my brother had the same score and gpa, but did a lot less extracurriculars and got 13k for his three schools. They definitely look at your essay as well.

I was emailed my financial aid around midnight last night. Kind of surprised at how low my merit scholarship was, honestly. I’m accepted to the SAS and Honors College at New Brunswick. I only received $13k a year (trustee scholarship) for merit. Was kind of hoping for more :confused: Has anyone else heard about their award?

My daughter received her scholarship last week. She is OOS so I was hopeful she would get something. Thankfully she did get a generous amount to make out of state attainable!!

Katy0923 Did Rutgers base your daughters scholarship off IS tuition/costs or OOS tuition/costs
