Scholarship question for those already in college

I'm going to be an incoming freshman this fall and I was wondering what are some of the basic credentials needed for scholarships for my soph, junior, and senior year. One of my regrets last year was that I didn't get started on scholarships sooner, and I was pretty apathetic about my gpa throughout highschool. Do I need good grades my first semester or something else? Advice much appreciated

Check out your school's scholarships for returning students and the requirements for them. There are far fewer scholarships for non freshmen so it will probably be slim pickings. Yes I would guess GPA would be an important factor. Also check out your department as there are often departmental scholarships - for instance a chem major may find scholarships available just for chem majors etc.
