Scholarship Weekend 2011

from NC-last name S- going on Feb 12th

From NH, Last name begins with M. Going the 25th.

From PA, last name T, going the 11-12

From NJ, Last name begins with “S”, going the 25th-26th

Can I have some input from past parents, what is the “dress code” like for both the reception the night before, and the interviews themselves? Business casual? jacket and tie?

We were there last year. For the dinner the night before, most of the young men were wearing coat and tie. The next day there were khakis, nice shirt and some ties and some wore sweaters.

Last year there was a huge snow storm in the Northeast during the first weekend and many just could not get there. They did allow those individuals the opportunity to come the second week.

It was a great weekend and D received a very nice scholarship. The awards are made within a few weeks after the last weekend. Enjoy your time on campus! My daughter will be there helping this year.

Did girls where mostly dresses or are dress pants o.k.?

You will see dresses, skirts and dress pants. My daughter wore a skirt to the dinner and a simple black dress to the interview. Definitely there were many interpretations of “business casual” among the ladies.

Best of luck to all of you.

When we attended last year, the majority of dress was professional. Most of the young men wore suits and ties. Those who wore khakis and nice shirts/sweaters stood out.

Since this is such an important weekend for the hopeful students, I would suggest your son or daughter dress as professional as possible. I believe the opinion is that those who take the weekend more seriously are the ones who dress more seriously.

I would suggest that parents also dress somewhat ‘business’ as you will be spending quite a bit of time with your son/daughter when mingling with the members of the school. Some of the parents last year were dressed as if they were vacationing in the Bahamas! The way people dress doesn’t bother me but they did stand out.

It’s somewhat of a shame when dress is considered so important, but that is the world we live in. If you want the scholarship, job, etc. you have to work hard and impress to get it.

Luckydog…we’re going the 25th-26th also, but I don’t think the last names or where we live have anything to do with it…

i also got the 25th and 26th and wasnt able to switch…which is kind of frustrating since i had numerous reasons i couldnt go that weekend but i guess i just have to make it work. im excited to see the campus for the first time!

Our last name begins with “W” and we ive in MD. Going 11-12

My son attended the weekend it snowed, and I was glad we had brought a suit and tie for him. We originally thought Khakis, but almost all the young men had on nice dark suits. Parents were dressier also, and I - mom - wore black slacks and nice sweaters and a nice coat. We were out walking about quite a bit, so warm socks and a coat were welcome. My son will be working one of the weekends this year.

Hope those of you that attended the Scholarship Weekend enjoyed yourselves. HPU is a great place for my son (a Freshman this year)! He’ll be “working” the next Scholarship Weekend…not sure what exactly he’s doing but he said he was helping with it in some capacity. (like many boys, he’s not easy to get information from)

We are anxiously awaiting for the next Scholarship weekend!

Can’t wait to see some of you this weekend! We are anxiously awaiting your arrival!!
The first weekend was amazing, and I know this weekend will be the same!

Let me know if any of you have pre-presidential questions.

Great weekend! Everything was so well organized, it made our daughter feel at ease right away. She loved it!

If you think this weekend was organized, just wait for move-in day!! Amazing!! It was painless other than the line to get onto campus which hopefully they may rectify for next fall.

Good to know, my son will start in the Fall. The Pres weekend was incredible. They have won over this very skeptical Mom!!!
