Scholarship

So I have a question regarding scholarships. Since the Academy is essentially payed for other than minor pay reductions for necesities, what happens with scholarship money I attain. If the money is forwarded to the academy what will they than do with it? Can it be used to help pay for my computer or uniforms? For example, I am applying for a 10K Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship for books, tuition, room and board, etc. If awarded this scholarship and it is forwarded to the academy, where does the 10K go? Maybe I will see. Just curious if it is worthwhile to apply to scholarship once accepted and committed to USAFA.

Actually, it goes into your account(that your pay goes into) @ the academy. When you graduate, you get open access to the account and the money is yours! Good luck.

didnt know that.. i just thought it kinda went away and its like you never got it :( but hey! thats great

It really depends on the rules of the scholarship. Some can only be used for tuition and books. Some can be used for anything. Some specifically exclude the Service Academies as a choice in going to school. Read the acceptance letter for the scholarship to find out all the conditions. If you still aren't sure, call the scholarship agency and ask.

My son attends the academy and recieved an outside scholarship.

He recieved the money the middle of his 2nd year. SInce it wasn't stipulated for anything specific, he recieved it in cash.
