i am looking to possibly apply as fall 2020… i am new to all of this and financial help will play a big part in where i end up. lmu is top of my list, but would not work without $$ any advise on this school and that topic in general.!? much appreciated!
@ttollie Some schools are very “by the numbers” and predictable on what they will offer in merit scholarship money. LMU is not one of those schools. My D applied to LMU and was accepted this year for theatre. She had very high grades and a 1500 SAT. I ran the net price calc and expected she would get offered $100K or so over 4 years. Nope, got only $22K, or $5.5K a year of merit money. Other comparable schools offered her $120K packages. So… what does this mean? It means that 1) You cannot count on the net price calculator to be an accurate estimate. 2) That LMU is likely giving bigger scholarships for certain majors that they need/want more of, and smaller scholarships to degrees where they have no trouble getting applicants (note - this is just my speculative opinion). What are such majors that they might be giving bigger scholarships to try and attract students with? I don’t know… I could guess maybe STEM type majors… but that’s a guess. I just know that my daughter had top academic #s, and didn’t get a good merit package from LMU, when other comparable schools gave her great merit packages.
