Does anyone know by how much the adjust the financial aid based on scholarships. For example: if someone got $4k in scholarships for that year. How much would their financial aid be reduced to accomodate for this scholarship?

Your total FA package will remain the same...but your scholarship will reduce the self-help portion of your package (loans and work-study). Additionally...if you have a substantial scholarship...your Cornell grant will also be reduced as your FA + any outside awards cannot exceed the cost of attendance.

Also...your scholarship money will never reduce your EFC or student contribution.

$4k. if you get a scholarship for X amount, you get X amount less for financial aid, idk the specifics. sorry.

So it can only be used for loans and work-study....um, so what's the point of even applying for scholarships then? they cap the loans at 3k and work study is like 1500. so...anything more than a 4.5k scholarship a year is pointless? That seems odd >.> Well, thanks for the answers guys.

Well it depends on your EFC, loans aren't capped at 3K for everyone and go up as high as 7.5K.

Hypothetically, If I get a 40k/year outside scholarship, NONE of it can be used for the EFC? Even after it runs through Cornell's FA?

ya i actually have the same question... I a outside scholarship and they reduced my FWS.... now i actually need to increase it to keep the job i think :/

i also decided to do 10 meals a week this semester because i dont get to eat all 14 from the traditional meal plan. I was told that doing this will also help my parents save money... but i checked my bill and i think cornell is paying for my traditional meal plan of 14 meals a week.. so do i get a rebate check later?

im really confused :(

You'll need to go to the dining website and downgrade your meal plan. You'll get a refund a week or so after you downgrade.
